Shaque Review: With friends and family like these, who needs enemies? That’s the question you keep asking as viewers are taken on a confusing and uncertain journey through grief and desperation. 9 years after her newborn daughter is kidnapped from the hospital, Anvita stills holds on to hope that her daughter will return one day. However, when the opportunity to pounce arises out of the blue, she is forced to confront the uncomfortable realisation that she is surrounded by people who want nothing but the worst for her.
The series has an emotional foundation and great performances that anchor it firmly, leaving us rooting for the characters and their journeys from start to end. While finding the truth is an important part of the story and the natural progression of things, the series interestingly asks what happens when one is forced to doubt everything and everyone in their lives.

A Mystery Built on Suspicion
Shaque: Trust No One starts off by telling its viewers all the people who deserve our suspicion. With heartbroken mother Anvita at its centre, it’s pretty clear what the series wants to portray and how it wants us to proceed with our emotions. While we don’t get all the answers right away, there’s a heaviness in the air that makes viewers go through everyone’s smallest actions or lack thereof. Anvita is an interesting protagonist in that sense, as she spends years holding on to the fact that she will find her daughter at some point.
The series understands that a missing child mystery needs more than just twists and turns – it needs a solid emotional core that will ground its characters to the story. The series does just that, and viewers will find themselves mostly compelled to figure out who could be behind Avita’s woes. As we cycle between the different characters to understand who might be the person responsible, it becomes clear that no one is above suspicion. While most of the suspects are obvious from the first episode itself, the series is still able to hold the audience’s attention thanks to taking its time to unravel how these characters have contributed to Anvita’s plight.
Throughout the runtime, the series does a good job tying the different strings together such that, while most of the characters aren’t directly responsible, their small missteps and betrayals have overall contributed to a shocking situation that could’ve been easily stopped. These situations give the story an easy way to play with assumptions as we wait to figure out if there are more skeletons to tumble out of the closet. As audiences are asked to question the characters and the information that they get, the series asks more and more questions highlighting how complex human behaviour can be.
Parineeti Chopra Gives the Series Its Emotional Centre
At the heart of the story is Anvita, the grieving mother who desperately wants to find her missing daughter. Chopra, who returns to screens after 2024’s Amar Singh Chamkila, does a great job with Anvita and makes us root for her throughout. While she is attacked from all sides by people she never could’ve imagined, we see her standing tall and still fighting against the tide, a feat that is extremely enjoyable to watch in a show like this. Playing between determination and uncertainity, her character works best when she overcomes the obstacles to get to the truth when no one else would.
Overcome by exhaustion, desperation and suspicion, Chopra balances these emotions well enough for viewers to be hooked to the show. The other characters, too, are great and make viewers hate them in different ways. The beautiful location adds to the beauty and mystery and helps deliver an entertaining journey.
The Twists Keep the Story Moving
Shaque: Trust No One knows that keeping audiences confused and on the edge of their seat is important to keep them entertained and, thus, from the get-go, mentions that there are a lot of secrets that viewers need to sift through. As one question is seemingly answered, another takes its place, keeping the cycle of mystery running. As a result, the pacing is also swift, and before long, viewers will find themselves at the end of the runtime. Thus, the series expands beyond the original kidnapping and focuses on everyone around Anvita to paint a deeper, more tragic picture about trust and deception.
However, there’s a problem in this approach as well – while the story keeps on moving to explore the next big thing, it forgets to slow down and focus on the emotions that the revelations bring about. The series feels like it’s more interesting to throw as many shocking and depraved twists and turns towards Anvita than actually taking the time to understand the emotional ramifications of everything that she has already gone through. While viewers who enjoy their thrillers to be quick and easy will enjoy the current approach, the series clearly isn’t able to be as deep or hard-hitting as one might expect.
Where Shaque: Trust No One Falters
As mentioned previously, the series explores its themes on a surface-level basis and that sometimes even makes it feel preachy. While the pacing is great if you want a quick entertainer, there’s no depth to the characters or their motivations because the series doesn’t slow down to explore them. Some developments are extremely convenient and silly for viewers to take them seriously, which makes one wonder the point of having literally every character be terrible. This results in many of the ensemble cast not getting the attention that they deserve.
Final Verdict
In the end, Shaque: Trust No One is enjoyable if you need a quick, twisty thriller. However, there are moments when it feels obvious and silly thanks to some of the plot progressions. This one needs some amount of suspension of disbelief to be enjoyable, but, overall, will keep viewers entertained for the most part.
