When is Park Seo-joon’s Dream Releasing on Netflix? Know More About the Korean Sports Comedy!

Netflix is about to drop a Korean sports comedy movie and keeping calm is out of the question. From the trailer of Dream (드림), it is clear that the movie is going to be a laughter riot. And why not? It has been written and directed by Lee Byeong-heon himself, the guy behind Extreme Job and Twenty.

The movie will deal with football and the trailer does make it clear that besides the comedy, there will be an emotional quotient, as it is with other Korean sports movies. The way Korean sports comedies incorporate emotions is what makes them so appealing. And needless to say, we can also expect an emotional angle to the palpable chemistry between the leading titular pair of the upcoming film. Overall, a perfect binge-watch-worthy movie. Just blow the whistle already!

Dream Cast

The cast includes Park Seo-joon (Fight For My Way, Itaewon Class, What’s Wrong With Secretary Kim) and famous Korean pop icon Lee Ji-eun aka IU (Dream High, My Mister), in lead roles, along with Kang Ha Neul, Kim Jong-su, Ko Chang-seok, Jung Seung-kil, Lee Hyun-woo and Yang Hyun-min. Park has already proved his hold over the comedy genre with Midnight Runners so we can expect him to pull off the role of footballer Yoon Hong-dae like a pro. And IU too looks pretty comfortable as documentary director Lee So-min.

Dream Plot/Storyline

When famous footballer Yoon Hong-dae undergoes disciplinary action due to his actions during and after a match, his PR team decides to whitewash his public image. For this, the team hires director Lee So-min who aims to film a documentary with Yoon training a bunch of homeless individuals for the upcoming football tournament, the Homeless World Cup.

From the trailer, it is clear that Lee has opted for the players based on how sad their life story is. This would only add to the message that her documentary will carry and which will in turn help Yoon regain his image. However, this whole plan nullifies the very nature of a documentary as the whole thing is scripted. Confusion and arguments are bound to occur. But the latter half of the trailer shows how the footballer will slowly manage to teach the individuals not just how to play football but the very meaning of team spirit and what all it takes to stay together. The journey won’t be easy but the results will be worth celebrating.

Dream Release Date and Trailer

The Korean movie, which will reportedly have a runtime of 2 hours and 5 minutes, releases on Netflix on July 25, 2023. Watch its trailer below to join in on the hype.
