Insomniacs After School Episode 8 Review- An Unexpected Outcome

Ganta surprised Insomniacs After School Episode 8

It is going to be hard to talk about this episode without spoiling at least some aspects of it, so please accept my apologies before we get started with this. The more I get into this show, the more it feels like very few pieces of media have understood their characters as well as Insomniacs After School has. Writing about so many distinct personalities this well can’t be easy, but the writer manages to make this show one of the realest and most genuine experiences one can have. This is also a show that has gone from strength to strength in every episode.

Every character, even bit-part players, has various well-defined traits that make them get along great with at least one other cast member, if not more. The characters here have absolutely insane chemistry, and the dialogue does a very good job of displaying them. I know this doesn’t really mean much when most of us are reliant upon subtitles to absorb this show, but if the subtitles are so witty and natural, that must say a lot about the writing in the show.

The relationships between these people have been built up very well, and feel organic in their appearances. Ganta might still feel a little awkward around Nono, Anamizu, and Kanikawa, given they were Magari’s friends first, but he can now talk to them and have fun with them just as one would in the real world. They also think that he’s a little weird and uptight, but they also appreciate the effort that he has put into everything and go along with it for their personal reasons, as demonstrated two episodes ago. This is no found family, but it’s close.

Since we have broached the subject, let’s talk about the effort Ganta put in for this meteor shower and how well the show has handled his character in general. Despite him being a main character, it feels like we don’t know much about him at all. We know he has insomnia, feels inadequate, and that something happened in his childhood that makes him behave this way. He still blames himself for it, as apparent by taking a total act of God in this episode and making it his responsibility. He feels like nothing can ever go right, no matter how hard he tries.

It is hard to describe why I love Ganta so much, mostly because all of those reasons are personal, and I feel like I can relate to him. But that’s the beauty and the magic of this show – the characters are written so well that one can’t help but relate to them, or root for them, or whatever else kind of emotion you are feeling like you want to conjure for them. They all give you a lot of reasons to like them and to want them to succeed. Insomniacs After School Episode 8 was amazing, and there’s not much else that I can say about it.

Verdict

Insomniacs After School Episode 8 was an absolutely lovely outing which featured some fantastic character writing and a story event that only a show like this could ever do right.
