The Last of Us: Viral Memes that Bring Humour to a Post-Apocalyptic World

The Last of Us has already been proclaimed as one of the best television adaptations by the hardcore fandom of the internet in the span of just two episodes. Fans of the gaming franchise have expressed their satisfaction with the show and praised its execution in terms of stellar cinematography, tight screenplay, and gripping performances.

Morever, the series has received an astounding response from the fans and has taken over the most-watched streaming spot. The post-apocalyptic thriller show revolves around a world destroyed by a fungal pandemic, that transforms the infected individual into a death-defying zombie, also known as Clickers.

The Last of Us Episode 1 laid the foundation of the pandemic-induced world and introduced us to the horrors of the widespread. And even though the series is based on a fictional set of events, the horror that sets in after the outbreak, felt surreal and terrifying. Many netizens pointed out the similarity between the Covid-19 Pandemic and the feeling of hopelessness that came with it.

On the other hand, The Last of Us Episode 2 literally upscaled the atmosphere of terror, by featuring the gruesome and hideous clickers. All of which, led to a bombardment of internet memes and videos, surrounding the first appearance of the hideous zombie creatures.

So far, the series has been successful in building a gritty narrative and paying a perfect tribute to the source material. Moreover, many fans pointed out the visuals of the videogame and their inspired scenes in the series, with a special set of memes and posts.

For the unversed, the adaptation is helmed by Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann and features Pedro Pascal as Joel, and Bella Ramsey as Ellie.
