My Hero Academia Season 6 Episode 13 Review- Live To Fight Another Day

Mr Compress unmasked My Hero Academia Season 6 Episode 13

My Hero Academia Season 6 Episode 13 was never going to be the flashiest of the series, nor was it going to be anyone’s favourite heading out of this arc. All this had to do was end this conflict in a way that gave everyone a chance to retreat while still looking sensible and progressing the show’s story. It was always going to be a downer because of what it represented- the end of the show’s best arc in what seems to be forever. It is going to be a hard return to not seeing fighting and explosions on our screens every week, but it feels like the show is back on track now.

The League of Villains is a weird group because their rise to power didn’t make much sense and seemed to happen suddenly. Tomura always had All For One behind him, but the rest of them felt like a raggedy team of nobodies who were just the first people to join up with Tomura and thus held high positions in the group. In fact, that’s pretty much exactly what happened. Thus, when Season 5’s bright idea turned out to be focusing on all of them and building them back up from the ground up, including giving them sympathetic backstories, it was more than a little bewildering.

Tomura My Hero Academia Season 6 Episode 13

The episodes also proved to be much less interesting than the show’s previous offerings, with one glaring exception. Tomura Shigaraki: Origin was a classic episode amid the pile of middling content that the LoV offered, and despite it, they have proven their worth this season. Again, it was mostly just Dabi and Tomura who did the heavy lifting for the group, but at least it was more diverse this time. Thus, Mr Compress coming out of the woodwork and doing something useful for the first time since kidnapping Bakugo in Season 3 was somewhat awkward, but it did make sense with the story the show was trying to tell.

My Hero Academia Season 6 Episode 13 was about retreating in a way that doesn’t make you lose face. The same was true for the villains in this episode, which is a funny way to finish things. I’m not against it since this arc felt to be too much like the final one in the series for a while there, and there’s a lot of potential in this story still. The way Tomura escaped will be important to his character development in the future, and the same goes for Deku in his failed attempt to stop him one final time.

The show is in a very interesting spot after My Hero Academia Season 6 Episode 13, as both sides of this battle have suffered too many losses to be facing each other anytime soon. The heroes have a tattered reputation and a #1 Hero who the public has been turned against, alongside a smorgasbord of dead and injured friends. The same is true for the villains, who will probably never see Shigaraki at full strength anymore, alongside losing the strongest of their Nemus, including Gigantomachia. The field is extremely even, and the fight is once again centred around All For One and One For All.

Verdict

My Hero Academia Season 6 Episode 13 was a decent way to end things after the chaos that has been this season so far. It wasn’t a particularly memorable episode, but it did its job very well.
