Demon Slayer Season 2 Episode 9 Overview

Demon Slayer Season 2 Episode 9 Title

One of the most popular anime of our time, Demon Slayer, is back on our screens with the Entertainment District Arc. The newest series follows the 7 episode retelling of the Mugen Train Movie, which you can read all about here. The arc follows Tanjirou, Zenitsu, and Inosuke, aided by the Sound Hashira Tengen Uzui. They travel to Yoshiwara red-light district to hunt down a demon terrorising the town.

Ufotable is the studio behind Demon Slayer’s anime adaptation, and Haruo Sotozaki will direct the series. It is to be noted that only the first episode was a double-length episode, followed by standard episodes in the future. You can read our review of the Mugen Train movie while you’re at it or our review of the eighth episode of this arc if you’d like. The episode is also known as Kimetsu no Yaiba Yuukaku-hen Episode 9 in original Japanese.

Demon Slayer Kimetsu No Yaiba Season 2 Episode 9 Review- Please Tell Me I’m Wrong

Uzui Wives Demon Slayer Season 2 Episode 9

Since Attack on Titan’s final part started airing on the same day, an hour apart from Demon Slayer, each week feels like an unintentional competition between two titans of the medium. It might just be a personal thing, but comparing both of their outings sounds like a good idea- They’ve both got similar audiences, and they are both immensely popular shows with similar ideologies. They are both action-heavy shounen series with great animation and soundtrack, alongside both of them having their issues with the narrative.

Last week was most certainly Attack on Titan’s, with it having a huge earth-shattering reveal alongside answering one of its longest-lasting mysteries. Demon Slayer was also great last week, but not as good as Attack on Titan. However, while this claim is being made before this author has seen the latest Attack on Titan episode, it is near impossible for it to be able to unseat Demon Slayer‘s latest outing from the top spot. Demon Slayer Season 2 Episode 9 handily wins this week, and it isn’t going to be particularly close.

Action Demon Slayer Season 2 Episode 9

We continued Demon Slayer Red Light District Arc Episode 9 with a flashback to Uzui’s past, which by anime logic means that he is dead before the season is over. It was a good scene, but it didn’t add much to the episode except that Uzui cares about his wives and family, and the feeling is mutual. We already knew this since that was the foundation of the entire season, but it was still nice to get a beautifully animated affirmation.

As you’ll read in this in Demon Slayer Season 2 Episode 9 Review, the real magic was in the action set-piece, which got set up in the last episode. We saw Uzui and Tanjiro take on Gyuutarou as Inosuke and Zenitsu fought Daki. It is hard to describe action in the form of writing, but it doesn’t get much better than here. The smoothness of the animation, alongside the strength of the soundtrack combined with the show’s usual emotional beats, resulted in this season’s best moment so far.

The trio of Inosuke, Zenitsu, and Tanjiro was tremendous in this episode, with all three of them showcasing their strength in ways previously unexpected of them. They showed maturity and intelligence, something that two of them greatly lacked before this season. The scene with the three of them taking down a common for was among the best scenes the show has ever had. It felt like a huge moment because it was the first time the show had shown all three of them fighting like this.

Demon Slayer Season 2 Episode 9 also ended on an extremely dour note, leaving viewers scratching and clawing for just a little bit of hope during these dark times. Well, the battle isn’t over yet, and neither is the season. Zenitsu has only just started getting tolerable, but we all know it will only last until he wakes up. Inosuke has already redeemed himself, and Tanjiro finally understands his powers. There is still hope, and it is prudent to hold on to it.

Verdict

Demon Slayer Season 2 Episode 9 was phenomenal in every aspect of storytelling and action. It set the stage up and knocked the ball out of the park, and the season isn’t even over yet. It’s going to be hard to top this.
