Our Beloved Summer episode 8 starts with Ji-ung asking a morose and kidnapped Ung about his most memorable trip to date. We transported to college where Ung and Yeon-su went on their last trip together before he went away for an internship, sort of? Throughout the trip, Yeon-su pushes Ung around and doesn’t listen to a word he’s saying.

At the bus stop back home, Yeon-su tells Ung that the next time they should take a longer trip and adds that they did not and will not break up. And if they do, he should come to her the way he did throughout the day. At the end, she tells him that she loves him, shocking Ung. In the present, Ung tells Ji-ung that he doesn’t like going on trips because there’s nothing memorable.

Speaking to each other later, Yeon-su asks Ung how he can be at the same place as her since he said that he can’t stand her presence. In response, Ung tells her they are finally on a longer trip together. Yeon-su leaves without saying anything. As their trip goes on, Yeon-su decides to go on a trip to the village with Ji-ung, making Ung jealous at their closeness. Meanwhile, NJ is shocked and confused as to why Ung isn’t picking up her calls.

Yeon-su and Ji-ung enjoy a thrilling bike ride while Ung and Chae-ran discuss the interesting parts of the previous documentary and whether she can understand what is going on between Ung and Yeon-su in the present. When he comes back, Ung wonders why Yeon-su and Ji-ung haven’t returned yet. That night’s dinner turns into a bickering session between Yeon-su and Ung until his parents call him so that he can talk to NJ. It is evident that both of them still like each other and that Ji-ung likes Yeon-su, the last part to Chae-ran.

After dinner, after most of them have gone to sleep, Ji-ung asks Ung what his feelings are for Youn-su. When the latter tells him that Chae-ran had said that people behind the camera shouldn’t get involved, he smiles and promises to ask more questions next time and then leaves. Meanwhile, Yeon-su can’t shake her feelings for Ung and he can’t stop thinking about her. Both have a lot to think about.

The next morning, everyone leaves Ung and Yeon-su sleeping in the house alone while they go out. Yeon-su, after not finding anyone, goes into Ung’s room where she kneels down in front of a sleeping Ung. He holds her hand, apparently still unconscious, and she shakily takes it out. Turns out, he was awake.

Later that day, in Our Beloved Summer episode 8, everyone goes to a picturesque location to shoot and it starts to rain. Yeon-su is sitting alone in an abandoned shack when she sees Ung coming towards her. When she asks him why he’s there, he tells her that he’s there to think and adds that she has messed up again. She asks him to leave and tries to leave herself, but Ung doesn’t let her. Under the pouring rain, he finally kisses her.

In the epilogue. We are back at the bus stop where Yeon-su tells Ung that they would never break up and even if they do, then he should just come to her like he did that day. And then she will hold him and never let him go.

Final Thoughts: Our Beloved Summer episode 8

our beloved summer episode 8

Was I expecting the last scene? Yes. Was I ready for it? No. After weeks of torturing us with the ‘will they, won’t they’ attitude, Our Beloved Summer has finally given us what we have been craving for. With feelings finally out, hot and heavy, things are just going to get more complicated from here on out, I guess. We’ve just at the halfway mark right now and hopefully, the series picks up pace after this.

It’s a confusing watch when you can sympathise with all the characters of a show. Our Beloved Summer has a whole host of characters who all like each other. I am guessing that Ji-ung with end up with Chae-ran, just like Hometown Cha Cha Cha because it’s giving me the vibes. Things will definitely look up for our protagonists (hopefully) and they will end up with each other, regardless of their insecurities which they can overcome together. But then again, that’s the best-case scenario. Will there be a twist? We’ll just have to wait and watch.

Our Beloved Summer is streaming on Netflix.
