It is the 4th of May again and, the ideal time to repeat the iconic dialogue that has echoed through generations- May the Force (or, should we say, 4th?) be with you! This Star Wars dialogue and 4 May being called the titular day is nothing new but, every year it sounds special as the space opera franchise keeps expanding and the community keeps growing.

But no matter how big the franchise or the community of people associated with it gets, there is always something new to learn about this huge universe. Created by George Lucas and starring an ensemble cast that has stayed and changed over the years, we are here today with some interesting facts that we think you do not know about the franchise (of course, barring the die-hard fans who will say, ‘I Know!’ in an iconic Monica voice).

Interesting Facts About the Star Wars Franchise That You Didn’t Know

Sorry for your loss but, you can never have an original theatrical version of the films

…because, every release has been altered! You heard it right. In fact, the later releases that were distributed in and post-1977 had some or the other changes in it. Be it the visual effect or the sound quality, there is always a shot that is different in some way.

The opening crawl hides a secret

It is only natural that CGI was a hard commodity back in the day. So, the creative and inventive way to go about the thing was to write the famous crawl scene on a big piece of paper that was six feet long and have the camera roll over it to make it look like the text was moving.

Revenge of the Sith is HISTORIC!

On a personal note, I love the prequels and, yes, I have been called out for it a couple of times but, hey! taste is subjective. But, there is more to the third film in the prequel series than just me liking it. The movie is actually the one that has used the most visual effects ever in the history of filmmaking. It required 910 artists and 70k+ man-hours to create just one single footage (guess what it is in the comments!).

Star Wars Coins = Real Money

The Lucas Film universe has done us right in many ways, one of them being the fact that Star Wars collectable coins can actually be used as real money! Just visit the South Pacific island of Niue and you will know.

Ever imagine Yoda being a monkey?

Maybe, you did not but, George Lucas wanted our wise old guru to be played by a monkey wearing a mask and carrying a crane. Wonder how that would have been, right?

The toes change!

Yoda is a quintessential character in the franchise. However, what is more interesting is not the character’s presence but, how it has a different number of toes in every movie. It stars with four in The Empire Strikes Back, but it is three by the time you reach The Phantom Menace.

The story of Gillette and Gon

Qui-Gon uses a personal communicator in The Phantom Menace, do you know what it is made up of? Well, a resin cast of a Gillette Ladies Sensor Excell Razor, my good old friends. Bet that shock dropped in smoothly enough?

A language we know

If you listen carefully, you will actually know what language the Ewoks are speaking. It is a combination of Tibetan and Nepalese.

Sigh, Han Solo could have died (sooner)

It almost makes us teary-eyed just to know that Solo could have died in the Return of the Jedi. The story was initially outlined so that we could have witnessed the man die and Luke disappears forever.
