Psychological Thrillers on Netflix
Mindhunter (2017–2019)

The worst thing about this series is the fact that it only ran for two seasons and left fans hanging for years. Mindhunter is one of Netflix’s most acclaimed psychological thrillers and is one of the reasons why it is always featured in best thriller lists. Based on true events, the show follows two FBI agents who work with some of the worst serial killers in the USA to develop criminal profiling techniques in the late 1970s. Chilling interviews will leave you with goosebumps and will blur the line between fascination and fear. The series has some of the best casting of any Netflix show and is a must-watch.
You (2018–2024)

When You was first released in 2018, viewers thought that this might just be another romantic-drama series with a twist. However, what the series ended up being was the inner monologue of a stalker out to find love and acceptance, but whose skewed view of the world and relationships leaves a string of dead bodies in its wake. The show explores love, manipulation and identity in such a twisted way that you end up questioning who the real victim is in this scenario. The series is both addictive and unsettling, with fantastic performance by Penn Badgley, who makes for a very believable maniac!

Behind Her Eyes (2021)

This British miniseries is unlike anything you have seen before, and it’s an insane ride from start to end. While it starts as a typical thriller, following a woman who starts an affair with her boss while befriending his wife in the same breath, it turns into something much more intense, with reality beginning to fracture, culminating in a jaw-dropping ending that is unlike anything you have ever seen in recent times. With a supernatural edge, this one might not be for everyone. But, if you love quirky supernatural thrillers and love to keep an open mind, this one’s one of the best thrillers on Netflix right now.
The Sinner (2017–2021)

This series, originally an anthology on the USA Network, digs deep into the psychology behind crimes rather than focusing on the crimes themselves. Each season, we follow Detective Harry Ambrose as he tries to solve one disturbing crime after another, peeling back layers of trauma, guilt and repression and revealing truths about seemingly ordinary people that will leave anyone shocked. It’s one of those mind-bending shows that stays with you long after it’s done because it feels so plausible in so many ways.
Unbelievable (2019)

Based on true events, this psychological Netflix series is one of the highest-rated ones on the platform. Following a young woman accused of lying about sexual assault and two detectives determined to get to the truth, the series is disturbing in more ways than one. It’s a deeply emotional exploration of trauma, credibility and resilience and will pierce your heart deeply. The series also features standout performances by Toni Collette and Merritt Wever, making it all the more impactful.
