Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer is doing tremendously well. It might not be hitting the charts like Greta Gerwig’s Barbie is but, having watched both movies, we can assure you that Nolan has pulled something so beautiful and tragic with this one that it will always be an unforgettable contribution he has made in the world of cinema.
The film is written, produced, and directed by Christopher Nolan and, is based on the 2005 biography titled American Prometheus by Kai Bird and Martin J. Sherwin. The book as well as the film is on J. Robert Oppenheimer, the theoretical physicist who helped develop the first set of nuclear weapons on the Manhattan Project. It is produced by Syncopy Inc. and Atlas Entertainment. It has a runtime that is close to three hours.

Birdman
This 2014 black comedy took home a bunch of awards starting from best picture to best original screenplay during the Academy Awards and, we can verify that it truly deserved each one of them. Alejandro González Iñárritu directed the film and also wrote its screenplay alongside Nicolás Giacobone, Alexander Dinelaris Jr., and Armando Bó giving us a film where the dialogues sink deep into your bones.
Starring Michael Keaton in the main role along with Zach Galifianakis, Edward Norton, Andrea Riseborough, Amy Ryan, Emma Stone, and Naomi Watts, the film is about a fading cinema star’s struggle to reignite his career. The film is now streaming on Amazon Prime Video.

The Social Network
There is a Fincher versus Nolan drama going on for a while now. We are not here to comment on that but, let you know that there is only one Aaron Sorkin and no one does screenplays better than him. Sorkin wrote the screenplay for this David Fincher directorial based on the 2009 book titled The Accidental Billionaires by Ben Mezrich which is on the founding of Facebook.
There is a “hearing” kind of a setting in this film that resonates a lot with Oppenheimer along with the fact that both the film’s main characters are so similar. The film stars Jesse Eisenberg, Andrew Garfield, Justin Timberlake, Armie Hammer and Max Minghella. It has also won the Academy for Best Adapted Screenplay. You can watch the film on Netflix.
The Trial of the Chicago 7
Given that we have already claimed that Aaron Sorkin is a genius screenplay writer, there is no way we are not including this trial based film that is written as well as directed by him. It also shares the war theme with Oppenheimer, only in this one we deal with the group of anti–Vietnam War protesters with the 1968 Democratic National Convention in Chicago being the Manhattan Project here.
The ensemble cast for this film includes Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Sacha Baron Cohen, Daniel Flaherty, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Michael Keaton, Frank Langella, John Carroll Lynch, Eddie Redmayne, Noah Robbins, Mark Rylance, Alex Sharp, Ben Shenkman and Jeremy Strong. The film is two hours long and available now on Netflix.

12 Angry Men
Both the 1957 original and its remake from the year 1997 are films that can be defined primarily as dialogue-heavy watches. With 12 jurors in the scene, the film revolves around these 12 men deciding on the conviction or acquittal of a teenager charged with murder. Giving us an insight into conflict, consensus and more, both films are classics that need to be on your watchlist immediately.
Arrival
Having read Ted Chaing, we can tell you that it is not easy to take the work of that writer and put it on script in a way that is understandable. But, the 2016 Denis Villeneuve proved us wrong with Eric Heisserer adapting the 1998 short story Story of Your Life by Chiang into something that can only be described as heartfelt and mesmerizing.
The film stars Amy Adams as the protagonist with a supporting cast that includes Jeremy Renner, Forest Whitaker, Michael Stuhlbarg, and Tzi Ma. It revolves around how a linguistics expert and her team interpret the language of aliens. Stream the film now on Amazon Prime Video.
