Although anime and manga fans weren’t initially keen on the translation of their favourite characters into a larger-than-life representation on the small screen, here we have the Yu Yu Hakusho live action adaptation (幽遊白書) joining the ranks of a previously established long-roster of such Netflix releases. Although these Netflix live-action anime movies or shows haven’t always fared well among global audiences, some have made for successful renditions that blew away the majority’s minds and preconceived negative notions.
Several memorable anime titles like Death Note, Full Metal Alchemist, Cowboy Bebop, Bleach and more have made their way out as newly interpreted live-action adaptations. Though most of them have returned as dissatisfying attempts, other better titles were also easily forgotten. Not until the latest One Piece live-action series did these adaptations leave a mark on the mainstream content catalogue, so now, nothing is standing in the way of Netflix producing more such titles.

Soon to join the ranks of these names mentioned above, the newly envisioned Yu Yu Hakusho series will reportedly follow One Piece‘s suit in terms of being a standout premiere. Adapting Yoshihiro Togashi’s three-decades-old Yu Yu Hakusho manga (first serialised in Weekly Shonen Jump), Netflix has released a new statement claiming that the new title’s production spanned a long dedicated period of 5 years so that each of its character’s emotions and subtleties are accurately represented in the upcoming adaptation.
Yu Yu Hakusho Netflix Cast and Crew
Directed by Sho Tsukikawa, the forthcoming release will feature Takumi Kitamura (who also starred in the live-action adaptations of Let Me Eat Your Pancreas and Tokyo Revengers), Jun Shison, Kanata Hongo and Shuhei Uesugi as members of the leading cast. With a screenplay by Tatsuro Mishima, Ryo Sakaguchi was the VFX supervisor under the banner of Scanline VFX, and the production has been handled by Netflix and ROBOT in association with THE SEVEN. Akira Morii has stepped up as the producer, whereas Netflix’s Kaata Sakamoto serves as the executive producer.
