In Prime Video’s latest rom-com, wedding fever is upon us! When Jim and Margot realise that the dream venue of their respective loved ones has been double booked, they go to any lengths to make the situation as smooth as possible for the brides on such a stressful day. Of course, that has hilarious consequences.

You’re Cordially Invited Review
There has to be a limit on what we can and cannot be subjected to in films. You’re Cordially Invited, starring some very big names who have enamoured us with their performances previously, is kind of like watching a car crash while being forced to laugh. The film feels like a reminder of times that we have left in the past, filled with brain-rot jokes and a storyline that doesn’t make sense. Not to mention, no one makes any logical sense at any point and will leave viewers confused for most of its runtime.
The film follows two brides who accidentally get double booked at their favourite venue. Both these weddings are being spear-headed by their loved ones who are control freaks and don’t have their own lives. Ferrell, who is Jenni’s father and has made his daughter’s life all about him, can’t fathom her wanting anything different from him and Witherspoon, who is Neve’s sister, has a fraught relationship with the rest of her family and constantly imposes these feelings on her baby sister. Of course, they want the wedding weekend to be the most memorable in their respective loved ones’ lives but if they acted their age then we wouldn’t have gotten this film.

Both of these seemingly adult humans somehow don’t grasp the concept of not sticking their noses in other people’s business and neither can they stop themselves from acting immature. It’s almost mind-boggling that they got to their ages with their attitudes – it’s vile, unhealthy and thoroughly unflattering. I will also mention here that it’s not just the adults who are thoroughly immature. Neve’s friends are showcased as insane people who seemingly don’t have their own thoughts and don’t know about the things that they are talking about.
The humour showcased in the film is equally disappointing – it’s neither funny nor amusing. It’s cringy and makes you question your sanity. People constantly scream as if that’s something people normally do in tense or dramatic situations. I don’t understand which section of society this film is supposed to represent. I was thoroughly flabbergasted throughout the runtime wondering the point of everything. There’s hardly any depth and you won’t find yourself relating to the characters because they seem so illogical and terrible. Thus, when the emotional moments and character arcs came about, I found myself unable to connect or empathise. Plus, what’s with that end twist?

In the end, good performances can’t save this rom-com that feels like it’s dated and illogical from start to finish. I had a difficult time trying to take it seriously because it doesn’t try to create that heartwarming feeling at any point. I think there were some great themes here that could’ve been explored, but it’s just so silly (and not in a good way) that it became difficult to get to those points without rolling your eyes. Plus, it adds too many unnecessary things in the story to get us to laugh but falls flat on its face because, let’s be honest, Ferrell flailing with a CGI alligator isn’t funny in 2025.
Final Thoughts

You’re Cordially Invited is uneven and illogical and gets on your nerves. Sure, maybe it’ll be a good time for one-time watchers but honestly, rewatching a classic would make more sense in my opinion.
