The Hooligan Review
The plot of the show follows a young boy Kuba whose obsession with a football club emerges from his father who taught him all about it and how the club is the priority. However, things take a turn when he gets involved in the drug dealings that take place behind the scenes between his and the rival club. As he continues in his father’s reckless footsteps, things get worse when he plots a plan to help out his girlfriend who is in financial trouble.
The idea behind the plot is quite easily found as it is based on the infamous term- Football Hooliganism of Poland that emerged when rivalries between football fans became a major administrative issue. So large that it also resulted in deaths and riots. This was a major issue in Polish society and one of the sides of this Hooliganism is the mafia and drug dealings that are handled behind the scenes.
The plot of this show follows a young mind that has first been brainwashed by his father into believing the club they support to the extent that he takes it seriously. Let us remind you that a young teenage mind is easy to manipulate, but when met with life-changing events, it doesn’t take long for a volcano to erupt. And following this very rollercoaster, we have Kuba who goes through so much turmoil that he begins to leave the “right” track and believe that what he is doing is what is right.

The plot isn’t the best when it comes to entertainment and may also seem draggy for quite some time, pushing you into skipping quite a few scenes. This isn’t exactly the best watch this year simply because of how boring it tends to get especially in the beginning and a little in the middle. While it does make sense when you look at the bigger picture, all you will remember at the end is that teenagers can be scary.
While the draggy plot is a letdown, the performance of the actors has been quite intriguing and neatly done. There are no extra expressions or emotions creating confusion, instead, the performance is just right for the overall vibe of the show. Despite the lengthy plot, the actors have done beautifully in the show and to the best of their ability.
Meanwhile, the way the intense rivalry between football fan clubs has been shown is absolutely beautiful. You can see and feel the tension between these two groups of people who are giving it their all to live for the club they belong to. You can see how intense the devotion they hold for their teams is and this makes you wonder about the real-life situation of the same.

Summing Up
The Hooligan follows the story of Kuba who is a young boy trapped in the greed for easy money and supporting a football club that is his family. However, when things get rough as a result of his plan to help his girlfriend, reality hits him hard. The plot is intriguing when seen as a whole picture, but it isn’t the best when it comes to watching 5 episodes where you have to basically sit through some very boring moments.
While the crime thriller isn’t for everyone, it isn’t the worst watch out there. You can instead skip through some scenes or watch it by speeding up the show for a better experience.
Watch The Hooligan on Netflix.
