Your Name is a popular Japanese animated romantic fantasy film, which is now reported to be getting a live-action remake from the director of the film Raya and the Last Dragon – Carlos López Estrada. He has been enlisted by Paramount, Bad Robot and Toho to rewrite and direct the sci-fi anime live-action remake.
It was initially reported that the screenplay was being penned by Arrival and Bird Box writer, Eric Heisserer. But now Estrada is working on the current script. The original film follows Mitsuha and Taki, two total strangers living completely different lives. After making a wish, Mitsuha dreams she is a boy living in Tokyo while Taki dreams he is a girl from a rural town he’s never been to.
Two strangers find themselves linked in a bizarre way and inexplicably begin to swap bodies with each other intermittently. Your Name gained huge popularity and grossed over $230 million in Japan alone. It’s now considered a modern classic throughout the country.

Bad Robot’s J.J. Abrams will produce the film alongside Hannah Minghella and Jon Cohen, with Genki Kawamura, who produced the original. Toho will handle the distribution of the film in Japan, while Paramount will release the picture in the U.S. and all other international territories.
Although no actors have been cast for the upcoming live-action remake, but it will be interesting to see, who will get the part. The most important thing depends on the screenplay and where is it situated. The Japanese film is deeply rooted in the country’s culture and history, whether the remake will carry the same elements or reimagine it with a fresh perspective, is to be noted.
Carlos López Estrada is an Academy Award-nominated filmmaker who made his feature film directorial debut in 2018 with Blindspotting. After that, he directed Summertime in 2020, and is mostly for his Disney film, Raya and the Last Dragon. He is reportedly working on a live-action Robin Hood over at Disney, as well.
