Timothée Chalamet has put on his wellington top hat and promised to make us fall for chocolate yet again in the first Wonka trailer. Donning possibly his first happy-go-lucky character shoes, the American-French actor is coming to town to rightfully earn the townsfolk’s trust and kick start his magical factory as the world’s greatest inventor, magician and chocolate-maker, Willy Wonka.
Many chocolate-makers have previously come to town for the same business, but none of them have been able to stick for the longer run, and the same is perceived to be Willy’s fate as well. He may as well be a “man of ingenuity” who can conjure up about any kind of chocolate you like – dark, white, nutty or even “absolutely insane”- but is his will going to be crushed too, much like those who came before him? All he needs to do is get a shop to sell his chocolate, but with the Chocolate Cartel having monopolised over the whole system, he can’t even set up shop to sell his pieces of emotional art.

What is Willy going to do after all in a town where even daydreaming costs you three bucks? He may not have the power to do what he wants yet, but yes, his will is stronger than others believe it to be. On this adventure of a lifetime, that will take all you Roald Dahl books lovers back in time, Chalamet’s Wonka has the power of his pinky promise by his side to overcome any and every hurdle in his way.
As the whole world tells him how a “good chocolate” should be like, he will not let his spirits drown by reducing his vision to simplicity, when he can simply let his chocolate do the talking, which also makes people fly. And it won’t be long before his magic works on the rest of the world to accept him as the “too good” inventor he is. However, no one said that it was going to be easy, but at least Willy has his dream to hold on to, as we know, “everything good thing in this world started with a dream”.

This December, the whole world will discover how Willy became Wonka, and how he ultimately opened “the greatest chocolate shop the world has ever seen”, which we ultimately did catch a glimpse of in the previously released Charlie and the Chocolate Factory movie. But this time we also get to see the man behind the vision, for who he truly was before success caught up to him, just like the Oompa-Loompas did.

This project indeed marks the coming together of the best of several worlds as the Paddington director Paul King helms the charge of the upcoming movie along with the Harry Potter producer, David Heyman, supporting the reins. Producers Alexandra Derbyshire and Luke Kelly also join in on the mayhem of music, magic and the good kind of madness.
Chalamet will be seen working alongside many other respected actors in the film including Keegan-Michael Key, Paterson Joseph, Matt Lucas, Mathew Baynton, Sally Hawkins, Rowan Atkinson, Jim Carter, Olivia Colman and others. Simon Farnaby and Paul King have contributed to the screenplay adapted from a story by King and based on characters created by Roald Dahl. The film is set to be distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures globally.
