Wistoria: Wand and Sword Episode 7 Recap

The episode begins with Elfaria being awakened by her aide, who informs her about a promising new talent named Julius, whom she believes would make an ideal successor. However, Elfaria dismisses the idea, stating that she doesn’t need a successor, only a lone sword by her side.

Meanwhile, in the arena, Will finds himself struggling against Julius, who is using magic to create multiple doppelgangers. These aren’t mere shadows but fully functional copies that can deal just as much damage as the original. This magic is particularly significant to Will, as it’s one of the twelve spells created by Elfaria herself.

As the battle intensifies, Julius begins to mock Elfaria, boasting about how easily he can replicate the magic created by someone as renowned as her. This provokes Will, sending him into a rage, but his fury is quickly countered by the overwhelming power of Julius’s magic. Will rises from his battered state and ultimately proves his worth by defeating Julius. However, he loses the whole game when Wignall sweeps in and takes the crown.

Today’s episode starts off with the aftermath of the tournament that brought forth many interesting outcomes. We are taken to the after-party that was held in honour of Will defeating Julius and protecting the name of the dwarves. At this party, we also see all the people who support Will from the bottom of their hearts, including Rosti and Colette. But the most satisfying presence is definitely of Julius and his friends, who previously berated the dwarfs for not using magic. This time, it is their turn to apologise, but instead of just saying a plain sorry, they are made to work in the pub kitchen, which delivers double the satisfaction.

However, this was not the only outcome of the tournament. Everyone now accepts Will’s tremendous power, and they even actively try to recruit him to go monster hunting in the dungeon. This was mostly because they wanted to mooch off of Will, but he is happy to be considered a friend nonetheless. Another interesting circumstance is the sudden date plan between Will and Colette, which then hilariously gets interrupted by Rosti, whose love for Will is definitely one of the strongest.

But we also got some serious developments as we see Will getting the attention of the top four students who previously only saw him as a failure. The miss-perfect of Rigarden Academy, Liana, herself invites Will to join her and Sion, Julius and the Wignal to be a part of the upcoming All Student Praxis for a dungeon dive. This dive is not a simple raid but rather something entirely different and vastly more difficult. The goal here is simple – enter the uncharted areas of the dungeon, get as many points as possible and scale the tower.

But even after Liana invites Will, will the others be as interested in having a non-magic user as their partner? Sion’s anger and disdain for Will has not subsided yet, and Julius is still salty about his loss in the tournament. Plus, Wignal comes off as an enigmatic personality whose thoughts are hard to read. Whether Will finally creates a group with the elite four or decides to raid the dungeon alone is something that you must find out yourself.

Verdict

Today’s episode was again a good mixture of comedy and drama. The first half was definitely hilarious as we see two of the most promising characters fighting for Will while he is absolutely unaware of his charms. The tension within the storyline is also piling up as we are about to enter another action-heavy segment of the anime. Other than that, the animation is as usual the best aspect of the show.
