People contend that unravelling their history has become a labyrinthine endeavour. Yet, for the first time, the Vatican grants unprecedented access to these sacred artefacts. Each relic tells a story, a tangible link to a profound belief: ‘Jesus dies on the cross for your sins,’ and here is a piece of the cross itself.
The belief is so intact that when there was a fire at Notre Dame, they say that the firefighters didn’t just save a structure, but a piece of Christianity’s soul. People even say they tremble in disbelief, echoing the collective sorrow: ‘It was our home.’ In the presence of holy relics, one senses belonging to something greater, an encounter with eternity.
