Darby and the Dead is an upcoming teen supernatural comedy that revolves around a sophomore student who has the special power to communicate with dead people. The film is directed by Silas Howard and written by Becca Greene and Wenonah Wilms, and stars Riele Downs in the titular role.
Notably, the film was titled Darby Harper Wants You to Know and finished filming in South Africa. Furthermore, the music for the spirit-themed movie is composed by Roger Neill.

The original film stars Riele Downs as Darby Harper, Auliʻi Cravalho as Capri Donahue, Chosen Jacobs as Alex, Asher Angel as James, Wayne Knight as Mel, Derek Luke, Tony Danza, Genneya Walton, and Nicole Maines. Moreover, Ante Cheng serves as the cinematographer while Kate Hickey heads the editing department.
The supernatural comedy flick is about a teenage girl named Darby, who isn’t the most popular personality in her college, and frequently goes unnoticed by her classmates. However, there is one thing which makes Darby as the super special kid in the movie. A rare gift of communicating with the dead, which she discovered after a near-death experience.

Darby, can not only converse with the dead but also interact with them through their special powers. Although, the power is cool for any teenager, but it doesn’t help the sophomore in her college life. She continues to be the invisible girl at school, until one day, the popular cheerleader, Capri, dies under certain circumstances.
The dead cheerleader confronts Darby after she learns about the special power, and asks her to complete the last wish. Capri insists on a grand party, which will make it easier for her to move on, and leave the spirit world. In the process, she also promises Darby to help her become the next Ms Famous of the high school.
