Jordan Peele and Keegan-Michael Key are back together as Wendell and Wild for the latest stop-motion animation film on Netflix, thus, making our Halloween 2022 even better. Directed by Henry Selick, who’s previously worked on movies from the same category like Coraline and The Nightmare Before Christmas, and with Peele producing the gig, the film puts together a voice cast of Lyric Ross, Angela Bassett, James Hong, and Ving Rhames.
Presenting the titular demons and Kat Elliot as the “punk rock-loving teen” in question, the storyline has the former duo urge the latter girl, who happens to be a Hell Maiden, to set them free from the Land of the Dead.

Its official description on Netflix reads:
Two scheming demons strike a deal with a punk rock-loving teen so they can leave the Underworld and live out their dreams in the Land of the Living.

With Sister Helley (Angela Bassett) finding out the truth about Kat’s identity, she asks her to keep it a secret, otherwise, she won’t be able to protect her from “her demons”. These demons then raise an army of the dead in order to successfully venture into the Land of the Living but Kat is ready to take charge and she doesn’t want anyone else interfering in her business.

She doesn’t allow any friends into her life because “bad things” await those who get close to her, or better yet, “they die”, in this horror comedy. What horrors can be expected to intervene in the natural order of the Land of the Living? Will Kat rise up to the occasion and make the hard decisions as may be required when the time comes? All will be answered this Halloween season. Stay tuned for more to unfold.
This collaboration between Peele’s production and Selick’s direction is bound to be a great hit, considering their previous projects portrayed similar themes of the narrative. The film was also granted a platform for its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 11, 2022, and has already garnered “generally positive reviews” on Metacritic prior to its Netflix release.
