Vinland Saga Season 2 Episode 8 is the eighth episode of the latest season of one of the most anticipated sequels of this year. Vinland Saga is an action, adventure, and drama series directed by Shuuhei Yabuta and based on an original manga written by Makoto Yukimura. The latest season is being animated by Studio MAPPA.
A tale set in the golden age of Vikings, Vinland Saga follows Thorfinn, son of the greatest warrior ever to set foot in the world, Thors. Even after Thors moves away from the violence he had been embroiled in since his youth, it finds him and his family anyways as he tragically lost his life to the same people he once deemed his fellow warriors. Thorfinn swears vengeance and vows to defeat the person who started it all and to find the fabled Vinland, a paradise somewhere west.
Season 1, or the prologue of the series, saw Thorfinn become a vassal of the newest king of England and Denmark, Canute. However, in a tragic turn of events, he was unable to avenge his dead father by killing Askeladd, as he tragically lost his life trying to save his homeland from being invaded by the Vikings. Thorfinn must now find a new purpose in life, one that doesn’t involve revenge and eating his life in a fruitless pursuit. It is time to see how Thorfinn grows as a person.

This episode seems to be about introspection for Thorfinn and for us to learn more about what happened to him after being sold into slavery by, presumably, King Canute. The episode’s title is an apt description of him, as, despite some small moments of brightness with his field and Einar, Thorfinn is still very much a man who has lost almost all will to live. Almost isn’t everything, though, and we see if he still has the courage to fight on in this episode!

Oh, Thorfinn, you poor thing. Your life has been rife with tragedy and violence to the extent that you never learned about anything else. All you know is how to kill, maim, and feel sad. You have a ways to go before you start acting like a normal human being, but you are surely getting there. Einar will whip you up into shape about this soon enough, and if you’re reciprocating enough, you will learn one day how to enjoy life. That day isn’t today, but it is close.
