Vigilante New Stills: Nam Joo-hyuk aka Kim Ji-yong’s Journey from Model Student to Dark Hero Created by Society

Now that the release date is approaching, the Vigilante new stills give us a small taste of Kim Ji-yong’s journey from model student to dark hero created by society. Based on a webtoon of the same name, the Kdrama (비질란테) stars Nam Joo-hyuk as Kim Ji-yong, Yoo Ji-tae as Cho Heon, Kim So-jin as Choi Mi-ryeo, and Lee Joon-hyuk as Cho Kang-ok. This action-packed Korean drama is directed by Choi Jeong-yeol.

Nam Joo-hyuk effortlessly navigates between heartfelt romances in dramas like Twenty-Five Twenty-One and Start-Up, as well as showcases his prowess in action-packed sequences, evident in the exhilarating Vigilante teaser trailer for his upcoming Disney Plus Hotstar Drama. The show was granted an early preview at the On-Screen section of the 28th Busan International Film Festival on October 5, 2023, featuring a screening of three out of eight episodes. However, international audiences will have to wait until November 2023 to stream the entire series.

In the first image, we are presented with a vivid portrayal of our protagonist seated in a classroom, exuding the essence of a model student at the esteemed National Police University. His demeanour exudes sincerity and unwavering attentiveness, and his choice of seating at the forefront of the class hints at the possibility of him being an exemplary scholar.

The second image unveils a transformation, as he adorns a dark hoodie, embodying the pivotal moment when he assumes the role of a dark hero. The intensity etched onto his countenance speaks volumes, radiating an aura of palpable anger and unrestrained fury. This snapshot in time encapsulates the essence of his inner struggle.

In the subsequent image, he re-emerges, clad once again in the signature black hoodie, his gloved hands poised with purpose. It is as if he is fixated on a pivotal moment – a gaze that could signify a confrontation with the person he has either already dispatched or is poised to. This frozen moment in time hints at the depth of his inner turmoil.

The final image captures him in his university uniform, standing tall amidst the austere surroundings of the shooting range. This tableau vividly portrays his proficiency with firearms, suggesting a level of training that surpasses the ordinary. It is evident that he is either a seasoned professional or is undergoing rigorous instruction, reaffirming his formidable prowess as a dark hero.

The show is about Kim Ji Yong, a student at the police academy who lost his mother at the hands of a local gangster when he was young. So, he becomes a vigilante and kills criminals. The entire plot revolves around catching the man who is killing the criminals, as he has taken the system into his own hands.
