Vigilante Episode 6 Ending Explained: Are Ji-yong and Jo Heon on the Same Team Now? Who is Mr Bang?

Vigilante Episode 6 Ending Explained: Releasing on November 22, 2023, the sixth entry of the live-action adaptation of Kim Gyu-sam’s Naver webtoon has opened up some grand discussions about the finale, especially since the next two episodes to follow soon will be the last ones to conclude the seasons. The South Korean action thriller series stars Nam Joo-hyuk as Kim Ji-yong, Yoo Ji-tae as Jo Heon, Kim So-jin as Choi Mi-ryeo, and Lee Joon-hyuk as Cho Kang-ok in the lead roles in this violent fight for justice.

While the Disney+ K-drama is centred around Joo-hyuk’s character switching roles and assuming the titular responsibility as a vigilante out to mete out justice at night, his ideology starkly contradicts that of Yoo Ji-tae’s character. They both walk the same walk to fight against criminals, but their ways and thought-process to go about it are opposingly parallel to each other.

The thriller K-drama also stars Lee Seung-woo as Min Seon-wook, Kwon Hae-hyo as the Police Academy Professor Lee Jun-yeop, Lee Hae-young as Eom Jae-hyub aka the Vole, Yoon Kyung-ho as Kim Sam-doo and others in pivotal supporting roles. Originally titled as 비질란테, in hangul/Korean, it has been directed by Choi Jeong-yeol, created by Moon Yoo-seok and written for screen by Lee Min-seop.

Who is Mr Bang and Why Did He Attack Jo Heon?

Vigilante Episode 6 Ending Explained - mr Bang

Mr Bang is a ruthless man often brought in by Kim Sam-doo who to do his dirty work and as he notices Choi Mi-ryeo still digging up intel on him, Sewool and the Vole’s connection with them, with Jo Heon now also acting as a hindrance in his path, especially since he framed one of Sam-doo’s murder factories as that of the Vigilante instead. Plus, of course, with the Vigilante’s name being associated with him, Sam-doo sees only one answer to rid himself of all these obstacles – eliminate them all, for which he enlists Mr Bang’s help.

Jo Heon was just one of the three people Mr Bang intended to hurt, and when Heon was left severely wounded, Ji-yong jumped into action too once he saw that Heon had abruptly halted Ms Choi’s broadcast. Reaching timely, he’s able to help his senior, but that again narrows down all three targets at the same location, with Heon and the Vigilante in the parking lot and Ms Choi upstairs. However, Mr Bang and his lackey have no choice but to escape once they hear police sirens in the distance.

Are Choi Mi-ryeo and Cho Kang-ok on the Same Team?

Vigilante Episode 6 Recap - Kim So-jin and Lee Joon-hyuk

Well, they both consider themselves to be on Team Vigilante so it may seem that they’re working together but they’re only doing so under their mutual affinity for the Vigilante. If it were not for him, we can already see that Mi-ryeo is onto Kang-ok as she’s been trying to find any hard piece of evidence incriminating Kang-ok’s involvement in the Sewool mess too. She believes that he shares obscure ties with Kim Sam-doo, but hasn’t been able to find the linking thread between them yet. So, even if she’s working with him, she’s still evidently wary of Kang-ok and his intentions, that have been in the dark since the beginning.

Why is Jo Heon Against Ji-yong’s Role as the Vigilante?

Even during his conversation with Mi-ryeo, Heon refers to the Vigilante as a “wound” that was festering hopelessly due to her glorified narrative centred around his action. At the end of Episode 5, Heon answers Ji-yong’s questions, and it all conveys why he dislikes the concept of vigilantism. He agrees with Ji-yong as far as the system neglecting victims goes, and its also considerate and generous treatment of criminals who don’t deserve it, but he only empathises with these thoughts as a human being. For him, being a police officer comes before being a mere human being.

And as a police officer, he can’t stand by him challenging the system, that too with violence, especially since Ji-yong’s actions then fall into the category of acts of treason. Jo Heon only finds meaning to his life through his job as a police officer, but despite him being proud of this title, he can also see through the acts puts on by many incompetent officers, who’re otherwise actually lazy, while others are even corrupt in the force, and that’s what serves as excruciating pain for him.

Moreover, he also sees through, Ji-yong, who unlike these inept officers, is actually someone who vehemently abhorres crimes, and as seen through his actions, is even more than willing and capable to fight against them, but still he choses the immoral route to right these wrongs. Heon can’t stand by this waste of talent and ability, which is why he consistently pushed Ji-yong to bury his identity as the Vigilante, so that he can join the force as a police officer and they can work side-by-side.

Now That Ji-yong Has Saved Jo Heon’s Life, Are They on the Same Team?

Vigilante Episode 6 Recap - Ending

They can be, because, as observed before, Heon basically indirectly praised Ji-yong for his willingness to deal with these crimes. While they’re not necessarily on the same page, it does seem like they have the same set of foes, which could push them to work together, even if unwillingly at this point. On the contrary, even if they don’t necessarily work together, they’ll ultimately be forced to fend for themselves on the same side of things as Kim Sam-doo is already out for their blood, and seeing how unhinged and insanely powerful Mr Bang and his lackey are together, Heon will not be able to hold them off alone.

As seen at the end of Episode 6, he needs some back-up, and with Ji-yong’s Vigilante also on the target list, they might as well stand together if they wish to have better odds against Sam-doo’s men. While this is all speculative conjecture at this point, next week’s episodes will be the final entries of this season. Which means that Heon and Ji-yong will have to make up their minds sooner than later.

Additionally, Kang-ok’s character is yet to be unpacked as well. Why is he truly following in Ji-yong’s footsteps? Is it plain obsession, or does he have any ulterior motives too that we haven’t been let in on till now? Only time will solve the depths of these queries. Stay tuned!
