Urusei Yatsura Season 2 Episode 10 Review: A Girl Falls For Ataru

Urusei Yatsura Season 2 Episode 10 Review: Urusei Yatsura Season 2 Episode 10 was moving and amusing. If you want to know the detailed review read ahead.

Urusei Yatsura Season 2 Episode 10 Overview

Urusei Yatsura returns to breathe new life into the “boy meets extraordinary girl” genre. This anime masterpiece combines elements of comedy, romance, and sci-fi, enriched with a generous dose of humorous gags.

Once again, the series boasts a talented trio of directors at its helm. Among them is Takahashi Hideya, renowned for his contributions to Sword Art Online, Yahari Ore no Seishun Love Comedy wa Machigatteiru, To LOVE-Ru, and more. The other directors include Kamei Takahiro, known for his work on Enen no Shouboutai, Captain Tsubasa (2018), and others, as well as Kimura Yasuhiro, who lent his expertise to Magi: The Labyrinth of Magic.

Episode 10 of Urusei Yatsura 2nd Season can also be called the 10th episode of うる星やつら第2期.

I have tried my best to keep the review as spoiler-free as possible, but there are certain elements that I had to mention to give proper feedback.

Urusei Yatsura Season 2 Episode 10 Review and Recap – Mendo’s Octopus Problem

Urusei Yatsura Season 2 Episode 10 Review A Girl Falls For Ataru

After having some normal episodes from this anime for the last few weeks, we obviously got a random episode with some bizarre stories this week. And, here, we witness the plight of Mendo who is getting haunted by a spirit. But it is not the ghost of a human, rather it is the spirit of an octopus from the treasured collection of octopuses of the Mendo family. Now, for some reason, its spirit is stuck on Mendo’s head, and until and unless one finds its actual body, the octopus will not go away. And Mendo will continue to have nightmares about the octopus.

But thankfully, Mendo is not alone in his misery, as his friends are very much anxious about his condition. They are so worried, that they sneakily sneak into Mendo’s bedroom even when he refuses to meet with them. Hilariously, Ataru, as well, comes to check on him, and the moment he arrives, they start bickering. But it’s not just them, even Sakura sensei and her uncle arrive, and this is all because Ten has been going around spouting about Mendo’s condition to every person he could find.

This episode was weirdly funny in the usual Urusei Yatsura fashion, and you laugh at the silliness of the characters. But I preferred the second story more because it was pleasantly wholesome, and we get to see a side of Ataru that we normally do not.

In this segment, Ataru gets an admirer, which is definitely a first for him. This time, he is not the one chasing down a girl, but rather, there is a girl who fell for him at first sight. But there is a story behind her circumstance, and we end the episode on a good note with her love story.

Today’s episode again showcases two different storylines that had very different vibes. The first one was random and contained many comedy moments. The second one also had its fair share of funny bits, but at the same time, it was sad and romantic.

Verdict

I like today’s episode, and as always, I must mention, that the vibe of Urusei Yatsura is something that might not fit with everyone. Hence, if you enjoy this type of comedy where the story does not follow a set plotline, then I will definitely tell you to check this out.
