Untamed Review
Untamed starts with a grisly and disturbing crack, setting the scene for something terrifying coming in the later episodes. The best part of the series, as one might expect, is the beauty of the Yosemite National Park and how the creators have used it to their advantage. It’s absolutely stunning and sometimes scary when it needs to be. Sweeping shots of cliffs, forested trails, and unmapped terrain are both a place of comfort and the reason for our fear. You feel tense and isolated, and the murder definitely doesn’t help!
Apart from the landscape, which is its own entity in the series, Eric Bana forms another solid pillar for the series. He’s a gruff detective with no people skills but at one with nature and Bana is great as that character. With him is Lily Santiago as Naya Vasquez, who offers a curiosity and innocence as the rookie ranger with whom we relate thoroughly.

One of the other good things about the series is that it really does a good job of creating an arresting mystery and holding on to it. Mixing it with emotional moments, the series feels relatable and watchable, leaving us to watch with bated breath about what awaits Kyle, Naya and the rest of the park. There are also some funny moments, mostly quite dark, that will catch your fancy. It’s soemtimes hilarious and adds to the charm of the show.

Of course, that’s not to say that the series is all fine and dandy. The series has a lot of familiar beats and I am quite convinced that we could’ve had one less episode and things would still have been fine. There are long-winded moments of conversations that feel obvious and I found myself thoroughly disengaged from time to time. Still, it’s a good watch nonetheless.
Final Thoughts

Despite some boring moments, Untamed is a tense and arresting watch thanks to the cinematography and the dedicated performances. The series is thrilling and quite emotional, surprisingly, and will leave you questioning what happens next.
