Tying the Knot with an Amagami Sister Episode 1 Recap

Here, we meet a high school boy named Uryu, who has faced numerous hardships. After losing his mother at a young age, he was left to grow up in an orphanage without family support. These experiences shaped him into a firm atheist, believing only in self-reliance, convinced that no higher power or person will assist unless one helps oneself first.
However, his life takes an unexpected turn when he moves in with his foster family, who run a shrine in Kyoto. Right from the opening scene, it’s clear this will be a full-blown harem as Uryu encounters three potential love interests immediately. These three characters are introduced as the ones who will compete for his affection in the episodes to come. As with many harem setups, Uryu’s initial meetings with the heroines are awkward and humorous.

The shrine is home to three shrine maidens, all granddaughters of the priest. Uryu accidentally stumbles upon them while they’re changing, making for an embarrassing first encounter. The eldest sister, Yae, is clumsy and childlike, the middle sister, Yuna, embodies the classic tsundere trope, and the youngest, Asahi, is carefree and lively. Unsurprisingly, Yuna instantly labels Uryu a pervert and rejects the idea of him becoming part of their family.
A point of tension arises when Uryu’s atheistic views clash with the sisters’ religious beliefs, setting the stage for deeper conflicts.
Tying the Knot with an Amagami Sister Episode 2 Review And Recap

The Amagami sisters, as well as our hero, Uryu, are absolutely shocked by learning that Uryu is here as a prospective groom for one of the sisters. He will be the one who is going to inherit the shrine and also have the duty to run the shrine along with his wife. Hearing this, Uryu was not at all ok with the sudden development as he has always wanted to be a doctor and not a priest. But even after the grandfather assures him that he can continue both professions, Uryu vehemently disagrees with this proposition.
However, when he learns that he will have to leave the house if he does not agree, Uryu readily agrees. The sisters, specifically Yuna, are livid about the whole thing. Thus, she hatches a plan to make him quit their house himself by giving him extreme chores to complete.

At first, he was asked to cook food for everyone, then to wash everyone’s clothes and then to clean the room of the extremely messy eldest daughter. However, their plan failed cause he completed all the chores in record time and with extreme finesse. Even though he can do all the chores, his study suffers, and he can’t juggle both all the time.
This is why, when he sees that his life is indeed becoming problematic, he decides to leave the place for good. But are the sisters really happy with Uryu’s decision to leave? Well, apparently not, because they follow him all the way to his orphanage, where they find out how his life used to be before he moved in with them.

Verdict
I like today’s episode as we discover more about the hero and his past. We also explore his character in depth and realise how serious he is in his life. When he understood that he would have to court one of the sisters to pursue his studies, he agreed, and again, when he saw that this was a disadvantageous choice, he didn’t take a single moment to leave. The sisters also realise his passion and put a bit more effort into understanding the man who has come to live with them.
