The Worst of Evil Episodes 10 Recap

The Worst of Evil episode 10 starts with Gi-cheul and Jun-mo having a drink after the incidents of episode 9. Gi-cheul drops the bomb on him that he wants to walk away from the business after the current job wraps up and leave everything to him. Jun-mo is taken aback, but Gi-cheul explains that he wants to be a normal man with a safe life and doesn’t want to continue doing all this anymore, especially now that he has Eui-jeong.
The two of them then head over to the Free International City and airport construction seminar – it’s Gi-cheul’s idea to show Eui-jeong that he has changed. In the midst of this, they get a visit from Min-goo, who continues to badger Gi-cheul about Yankees’s whereabouts and then threatens to expose him to everyone if he doesn’t give in. After Min-goo leaves, an exasperated Jun-mo tells Do-hyung to control the police officer before he destroys all the work that they have done until then.

That night, Gi-cheul and Jun-mo go out on a very awkward double date with Eui-jeong and Hae-ryun, and the two women butt heads right from the start. The overflowing confessions of love, however, leave both Eui-jeong and Jun-mo in very uncomfortable (and jealous) positions. However, in the end, Hae-ryun chooses to get out of the dinner with Jun-mo while Gi-cheul drives Eui-jeong back home and promises never to make her meet bad people. That night, Jun-mo makes a smart pitch so as not to sleep with Hae-ryun but, in the end, gets to know that she will be staying in Korea from now on, leaving him tensed about the future.
Meanwhile, Min-goo reaches out to Baby and Smith in order to get to know everything about the drug network and ends up learning about a person called Meth Park from Dodgers. Meanwhile, at Gangnam Union, Hee-sung discusses the plan for the drop with the others and what each of them will get. Plus, Gi-cheul tells the others that they might need to get rid of Min-goo. Elsewhere, Min-goo meets Meth Park, who turns out to be Jun-mo’s father. Min-goo takes him to the station and asks to catch Gi-cheul, but he isn’t in the mood to cooperate. In the end, Min-goo asks him to be “close friends” in a mutually beneficial relationship.

Learning of this, Do-hyung meets Jae-man to know about his brush with the police and implores him not to contact Min-goo after this and then goes on to find out where Yankees is. Min-goo, meanwhile, finds Yankees’s girlfriend and brings her to the station, and she spills some very important beans about Gangnam Union’s involvement in Manager Cho and Yankees’s deaths. She further gives him some drugs that Yankees had and asks for protection in return. In the end, he arrests Jong-ryeol for murdering Manager Cho and promises to get everyone else as well.
After taking a major hit, Gi-cheul asks Hee-sung to find out what Jung-bae is up to and whether he ratted anything out to the police. Hee-sung, on the other hand, tells Jun-mo to ask Hae-ryun to give them more than the pre-approved 16kg amount so that they can earn big this time and not wait for the uncertain future. With things moving at a break-neck pace, Jun-mo tells Do-hyung the latest developments, who asks him to take it easy and not forget that he has to come back to being a cop. A stressed Jun-mo promises that he can do so without any issues.

He steals the drugs from them and leaves them on the road as the police wait for the exchange to happen.

With the exchange now having gone awry, Gi-cheul and Jun-mo get out of the burning car while Do-hyung is left shocked at the Japanese guy driving away from the site. Now picked up by Hee-sung, the three men make their way to Seoul to get their stuff back and declare another war while the police also pull back from a failed mission. After she leaves, he immediately tells Do-hyung where the Chinese are based, and the police there get ready to arrest everyone at the factory.

Soon after he leaves Gi-cheul’s office, he receives a call to meet Eui-jeong face-to-face. When they do meet, Eui-jeong and Do-hyung express concern over his changed attitude. This accusation pushes him over the edge as he unloads his pent-up frustration on them both and asks them to stay out of his way if they really want to help. Meanwhile, Jong-ryeol threatens the clerk at the Retired Police Association for Do-hyung’s identity and asks her to call him there.

It results in them fighting with each other, and as the police arrest Jong-ryeol, Jun-mo desperately carries Do-hyung to a hospital. At Gangnam Union, Jung-bae brings out Gi-cheul’s plan in front of everyone, leaving everyone in a bind. He brings to light that Gi-cheul never really knew who worked for him for all these years and that, without Jung-bae, all of their hopes and dreams would remain unfulfilled.
As Gi-cheul tries to tell them that he gave them the opportunity to live like this, Hee-sung reminds him that it was a joint effort on their part and he’s not more important than them. Just then, Min-goo walks into the office and gleefully talks about arresting “someone” for aiding and abetting murder. It turns out that Hee-sung, Jung-bae and Kyung-jin all went to the officer to deliver the drugs and tell him about Gi-cheul’s plans. Of course, this is in return of paying him commision. As they take him away, Eui-jeong watches on in disbelief and eventually follows their car.

When Jun-mo learns about this, he rushes out as well so as not to derail their investigation thus far. Chang-sik later gets news of Do-hyung’s death, but doesn’t tell Jun-mo the truth. Some time later, Do-hyung, Jun-mo and Eui-jeong receive felicitations for their involvement in the mission. After bidding his friend’s photo goodbye, Jun-mo goes to Gi-cheul’s grave and puts down his wedding ring along with a lit cigarette before walking away.
The Worst of Evil Finale Review

With three episodes dropping this week, the series delivers an impactful and very emotional ending which displays how, in spite of being wrong, sometimes some feelings cannot be stopped. The last two episodes are by far my favourite and I think it delivers a fitting ending that doesn’t get too dramatic but delivers an ending that is oh-so-common in situations like this – everyone faces some sort of trauma that none of them can come back from.
The way the series showcases the end of the drug empire is also quite realistic and done well, with neither the police nor Jun-mo going overboard while solving bringing the perpetrator to jsutice. However, even in this scenario, we see Jun-mo’s weakness and his genuine connection with Gi-cheul. After teethering between the good and the bad for so long, Jun-mo’s moral compass, in spite of being on the right track, finds itself a bit broken.
As I had mentioned in previous episodes, the series shines in these emotional moments and the mid-credit scene will bring out the feelings from fans who have been tracking this series and its characters. Gi-cheul’s emotional breakdown at being backstabbed by his closest friend and his love is realistic and humanises him so well.

Ji Chang-wook and Wi Ha-joon are excellent throughout the series. Wehether it be action or heartbreaking emotion – both of them carry the series so well that you won’t be able to look away. Although there’s a ton of blood and a lot of smoking, it’s a series that will oddly stay with you because it keeps its human connections in the forefront while making the action a secondary part of everything.
All in all, it’s definitely an enjoyable show to watch, one where bonds are made and broken thanks to the emotions behind them and not just because of greed or convinience.
The Worst of Evil is available to stream on Disney+.
