Sparkling Watermelon episode 10 starts with Eun-gyeol remembering an incident back from his old life with his brother. He was breaking up with a girl but she was not his girlfriend but his brother’s. When Eun-gyeol asked him to focus on his game, he told Eun-gyeol to stop worrying about him and live a life for himself. His words struck Eun-gyeol which is why he went in to kiss Se-kyung but could not do it because he remembered about the Se-kyung he met in his real life.

When he leaned away, Se-kyung started to tease him and asked him to not be embarrassed. However, he suddenly had an epiphany and kissed Se-kyung, leaving her shocked. On the other hand, Yi-chan asks Cheong-ah if she likes him and she confesses that she does. She hands him her notebook and leaves the room. In the notebook, she says that she wants to become friends with him and hopes that things are not awkward between them.

Eun-gyeol is asked to meet with Cheong-ah’s father to discuss about a few things. Then he requests her father to gift her a fax machine so that she can communicate with her friends. The next day both Cheong-ah and Eun-gyeol go to school together when they are stopped by the principal, who is also Cheong-ah’s stepmother. She warns Eun-gyeol to leave the house and not break the house rules by teaching Cheong-ah sign language. However, he refuses to leave and says that he will continue to give her lessons. In turn, she punishes him to clean the school after class for a month.

While Eun-gyeol is cleaning the school grounds, he gets a call from the handler from the shop. He tells Eun-gyeol that he has sent him a helper. But before the helper can help him, he needs to help the helper first. It is hinted towards Se-kyung who gets a panic attack when the teacher asks her to play the cello. She again contemplates to take her own life.

Yi-chan goes to a bookshop to buy a book on sign language and he encounters Cheong-ah. They go to a coffee shop where she shows him a drawing of a watermelon from her favourite artist Frida Kahlo. In the painting, the phrase is written ‘Viva La Vida’ which means Long Live Life. When Cheong-ah reaches home she finds a fax machine on her table and she instantly uses it to talk ti Yichan. Meanwhile, Se-kyung is inside a theatre crying her eyes out when Eun-gyeol also joins her and tells her how valuable she is to the world.

Yi-chan talks to the band about the watermelon painting and explains the significance behind it. Then all of them decided to rename the group as Watermelon Sugar to make it more appealing to the fans. Both Se-kyung and Cheong-ah arrive at the band rehearsal room when everyone is practising. The scene switches to the present time where a musician is talking to the press about how his band has to disband following an unfortunate accident of a fellow member. The episode ends on that note.

Twinkling Watermelon Episode 10 Review: Final Thoughts

The new episode deals with some deep topics that are often uncomfortable to talk about. Eun-yoo’s character has to be one of the most relatable in the entire show. She is extremely talented, outgoing and friendly but she is suffering from severe depression underneath it all. She has become very good at hiding it which can easily correlate with many people in real life. However, the use of disability to display a tragic event in one’s life is an overused trope which does not go well with the current climate. Nevertheless, the episodes remain entertaining, if one can overlook the forced comedic moments.
