The Upshaws Season 3 Ending Explained

At the end of last season, we saw Lucretia and Bennie Upshaw Sr. in prison. In the first episode, we see Lucretia posting her bail but leaving Bennie inside. The justification is that he got himself into this mess, and she is done helping her sister, Regina, especially when it comes to Bennie. Pouring together all her funds and her effort, she goes to the bail bondsman and tries to post Bennie’s bail. She gets denied when the man has to call an employer to ensure she is legit.

Regina just quit her job after she found out that some rich white guy got a scholarship instead of her. Rage quitting did not age well, especially after such an important expense. Meawhile, Bernard Jr came home to check up on his mother and ensure she is doing well. Regina gets angry that he isn’t helping his father but doesn’t argue with him too much. However, when Lucretia gives him some insights about being there for family, he is convinced.

Back at home, Bennie has started his own garage business, and it is booming. Now that Regina doesn’t have a job, she is also trying to make some money out of this hustle that they have started.

Soon, she gets sick of it. Turning a house into an office is difficult, and it is starting to weigh on her. Bennie takes her advice and goes to Lucretia to get his job back. She grudgingly agrees after noticing that Bennie’s help is more than necessary. However, the shop gets flooded, and the family is back at square one with the job front. One of them going through a bad friendship breakup. Savannah and Aaliyah are no longer friends anymore after the latter ditched the former for new friends. Bernard Sr and Jr are both concerned about what is happening and try to cheer her up for a game, but nothing works.

Eventually, when Aaliyah is at the dentist getting her wisdom teeth removed and subsequently high, Bernard Sr. and Jr. decide to record this and put it on her Instagram. They accidentally put it on live, and everyone saw the video, including Savannah, who was touched by what Aaliyah said about her and took her back as a friend. In other news, Kelvin is back and has been acting super weird.

Bennie Sr finds out that he has been acting this way because he thought Regina wasn’t allowing him to be home. Then the father explains that he didn’t offer because he was really excited about the suburbs. Kelvin took this to mean that Bennie didn’t want him at all. But after some explaining and some questioning, it becomes all okay between them.

Meanwhile, Bennie Jr has been dealing with his own thing. While his daughter Sydney was around, Hector, his boyfriend, was dancing. Somehow feeling uncomfortable, Bennie asks him not to do it. The next day, Hector breaks up with him giving some food for thought about why he feels uncomfortable in the first place. This internalised discomfort is not something Hector wants to be a part of.

But there is no time to think about this because Regina has a heart attack. Fortunately, it isn’t too serious, but she is in the hospital for a few days of recovery. Now that she has time, she remembers how important having that new job was. Her old boss hooked her up with a new one and ensured she was doing okay.

Bernard takes this moment as a wake-up call and asks Hector if they could get back together. He lets his ex know that all this conversation about being extra was his discomfort, and he is ready to get over that. In an attempt to test Bennie, Hector calls him to a drag club where he is performing. As soon as Bennie sees the performance on stage, he grabs a bunch of singles and showers them over Hector’s drag persona.
