The Ultimatum Marry or Move On Season 2 Review: The Return of a Cliché Dating Reality Show That is Awfully Messy and Outstretched

The Ultimatum Marry or Move On Season 2 Review: After giving a nice dating show Down for Love, Netflix decided to take a few steps back and return with the second season of its popular dating reality show created by Chris Coelen. It is hosted by couple Nick Lachey and Vanessa Lachey who are back despite there being rumours that they had been axed from the show. The first 8 episodes of the show have come out.

Is it really this easy to open up about your relationship and all that you are going through as a couple knowing that there are cameras focusing on you not only when you are awake but also when you are asleep and that the whole world will be watching it all? The show definitely has a fanbase as a result of it.

However, I can’t help but imagine that the couples must have been paid a considerable amount of money for taking part in the show but that must be only after “qualifying” for it. Or maybe they will be paid based on how well they “perform”. Yet, I have to admit that the couples do shed light on the different angles of relationship and commitment. But when you think about it as a social experiment, the show is majorly messy to the point of inducing stress even if you are single.

The Ultimatum Marry or Move On Season 2 Plot/Synopsis

The show brings together five couples (from around South Carolina this time) wherein each couple has to make up their minds about whether they shall commit to getting married or breakup. The “ultimatum” is opted for by either of the two parties (man or woman) to be better able to decide whether to go ahead with marriage or not and thus bring an end to the relationship.  But giving an ultimatum is bound to have consequences.

The Ultimatum Marry or Move On Season 2 Review: Discussion

8 episodes of such a show are messy enough. 10 episodes become torture. 5 couples arrive to test the strength of their relationship and how prepared they are to take it to the next level i.e. marriage. And the way to do it is to temporarily ditch their partners, and date someone else’s. In other words, get married or move on. And that is just bizarre.

Despite it being a dating show, don’t expect anything other than lunches, dinners, and lounges, with drinks incorporated in all of them. In all probability, you will anticipate what’s about to happen in the upcoming episodes by watching the first one and the rest will be a test of your patience and your ability to bear as you feel like pulling your hair.

I don’t get the point of a show aimed toward putting mutual compatibility to the test by introducing temptation and desire in the couple’s lives. But the fact that this is the second season proves that people get a kick out of it big time. Who they are and what goes on in their minds when they watch this, I have no idea and I don’t even want to associate myself with that either.

One cannot ignore the words that come out of the mouths of the participants as they do explore the different facets of a relationship and all that it brings to the table, especially with marriage being one of them. However, to test it like this, with the whole world watching! This is just the exploitation of emotions, thereby rendering them worthless because the only thing they are worth anymore is the money that the show will bring.

I do not know what the people at Netflix had in mind when they decided to greenlight the show. Only money probably. As for the couples, I feel sorry for them for doing it but I would also like to ask them what made them do this. I mean what’s even the point here?

The Ultimatum Marry or Move On Season 2 Review: Final Thoughts

This one is definitely for those who like watching such toxic shows and vent out their inhibitions about their own relationships although I doubt if any good will come out of it. If you want your relationship to be better, talk to your partner and stay away from this show and all that it has to offer which is basically poison.

The final two episodes i.e. Episodes 9 and 10, will drop on August 30.

  1. I don’t think people are considered ‘worthless’ for going on a TV show to explore their relationship. You could be considered be the same for writing this article.
