The Mortician Episode 2 Review
If there was ever a docuseries that I truly was looking forward to watching, then it’s HBO’s The Mortician. It’s absolutely insane how nonchalantly people talk about burning human beings. It’s just so horrifying that I feel one episode is enough to keep you on edge. The second episode is equally disturbing, with Sconce going a step further and starting to run an illegal crematorium in a kiln after his crematorium burns down. It’s an insane ride from start to finish and will leave you thoroughly shocked.
The series takes itself seriously and does a fantastic job of telling us this crazy story factually and without much added drama. After Sconce starts to burn multiple bodies in a kiln, neighbours, of course, catch the horrible smell and police are called, who get the shock of their lives when they see what’s happening in front of them. The story makes headlines and leaves victims heartbroken. On the other hand, the police dig deeper to find even more insanity unfolding in the background.

The Mortician is chilling at times. The series opens up about one insane thing happening in the background after another like it’s no big deal and leaves us to question what the hell is even happening! Just when you think that the crimes couldn’t get any wilder, it finds a way to make it so. It’s chilling and extremely watchable and the interviews are very insightful on this deadly funeral home!
Apart from the facts, we also see the emotional toll that it took on the victims of Sconce’s business and how devastated they were at realising that they don’t really know who they have in their urns or whose ashes they scattered. Losing a loved one is hard enough but to know that their dead bodies were violated in such a way adds another dark layer to it all. You can’t help but empathise with them.

Till now, you were made to believe that it was only David who was selling body parts and fudging the numbers and whatnot. However, when the real truth comes to light, you are left almost at wit’s end on what to think. I really enjoyed the way the series opens up about these things – it’s very entertaining and takes you by surprise.

However, it doesn’t stop there. As with this show till now, there’s something shocking around the corner that just hightens the insanity a little more every time. We eventually learn that David wasn’t even the first one to do these illegal and immortal things but rather, it’s a generational thing! The reality of the Sconces will really leave you shocked because it almost comes out of left field.
Final Thoughts

As with this show in general, the second episode is equally chilling and shows us entirely what was happening behind the scenes. It’s so morbid and Sconce’s nonchalant attitude just makes you feel so confused at times! Honestly, excited to see where it’s going next week.
