The Lying Life of Adults Trailer: Giordana Marengo Discovers Family Secrets and Complicated Adult Life

The Lying Life of Adults Trailer has been finally released after the teaser was unveiled last week. Based on Elena Ferrate’s novel of the same name, it is directed by Edoardo De Angelis. The Italian series is written by Ferrante, De Angelis, Laura Paolucci and Francesco Piccolo. There will be six episodes in total.

The description of the trailer reads – “When you are little, everything seems big. When you are big, everything seems nothing.” A quote that summarizes Giovanna’s story: her transition from adolescence, when every problem seems unsolvable, to adulthood, uncovering her family’s lies while discovering an unprecedented Naples.

The cast of the series includes Giordana Marengo as Giovanna, Valeria Golino as Vittoria, Alessandro Preziosi as Andrea, Pina Turco as Nella, Luigi Chiocca as Uomo, Adriano Pantaleo as Rosario, Raffaella Rea, Biagio Forestieri, Giuseppe Brunetti and Giovanni Buselli.

The official Netflix synopsis of the series says, “In 1990s Naples, brash and bold Aunt Vittoria helps her sheltered niece experience a different side of the city, upsetting the teen’s strict parents.” It is a story of a girl who is in search of her real reflection/identity, after the happy one of childhood, oscillates between two consanguineous Naples which, however, fear and hate each other.

The Naples above, which has given itself a fine mask of class, and the Naples of the depths, a place of excess and vulgarity. Giovanna oscillates between high and low, tumbling and climbing, bewildered by the fact that, up or down – the city seems without answer and without escape.

The trailer shows how she reaches out to her aunt, who her parents despise but also compare to. She wants to find out the truth about her aunt and if she really looks like her. But what she discovers shakes up the core of her childhood, her relationship with her seemingly happy parents and her own adolescent life, which is transforming into adulthood.
