When a series comes, often we won’t be able to comprehend the ending. That said, to help you with the newly released Italian series, here is The Lying Life of Adults ending explained. Starring Valeria Golino, Alessandro Preziosi, and Giordana Marengo, The Lying Life of Adults, aka La Vita Bugiarda Degli Adulti, shows the hardships of young Giovanna as she processes her broken family through her adolescence.
The official Netflix description of the series is, “The search for a new face, after the happy one of childhood, oscillates between two consanguineous naples which, however, fear and hate each other: the naples above, which has given itself a fine mask, and the one below, which pretends to be excessive, trivial. Giovanna oscillates between high and low, now tumbling, now climbing, bewildered by the fact that, up or down, the city seems without answer and without escape.”
The Lying Life of Adults Ending Explained: Giovanna’s New Pursuit
Giovanna, a 12-year-old who bonds with her aunt Vittoria, finds adulthood clumsy and messed up. As she grows up, she falls in and out of love, similar to her parents’ infidelity. Initially, she is smitten by Tomino, but he later ends up with Giovanna’s friend, Angela. Meanwhile, we also get to see how Angela truly didn’t love Tomino but rather was in love with Giovanna. In the future, Giovanna finds herself falling for a pastor, Roberto, who is dating Guillana. Fearing that she will make the same mistake Aunt Vittoria did, Giovanna somehow fights off the urge and doesn’t mess with Guillana’s relationship.

Caught up between trust issues, love, lust, anger, and drugs, Giovanna finally understands that adulthood isn’t as easy as they say. It isn’t small, but it is filled with pain and misery. Giovanna also understands that nobody is perfect, but a lie alone can show someone’s story beautifully. In the end, after witnessing so many dark sides of adulthood, Giovanna finally decides to sleep with Rosario to experience the hype around sex. However, she clearly realises that adults messing up their lives for sex is clearly a pointless move.

After that, she grabs her stuff and meets with her other friend, Ida. Ida, who has also been under the covers, witnesses her family’s breaking and decides to seek her own version of adulthood along with Giovanna. Ida finally seeks Giovanna’s company to escape the adulthood nightmare. Ida also seems to be in love with Giovanna.
In a diary titled La Vita Bugiarda Degli Adulti, Ida states how she lost her virginity to a guy working at her home, whom she hated to be with but had no choice. She just wanted to let go of the sexual burden, hence she chose him. Ultimately, Giovanna and Ida leave together to find a new life.

Will There Be The Lying Life of Adults Season 2?

So far, there hasn’t been any information regarding another season for this series. However, if you have read the book, it is evident that the first season has wrapped up the story. But if the creators are willing to push forward and zone in on Ida and Giovanna’s lives, then there can be another season.
Netflix usually announces the renewal of its shows two to three months after they first air. Hopefully, by May or June 2023, we will know whether there will be another season of the show.
Until then, enjoy watching the limited series on Netflix and let us know your thoughts.
