The movie’s narrative unfolds after a fateful near-miss, thrusting an assassin into a tumultuous struggle against both his employers and his own internal conflicts. As he embarks on an international manhunt, he adamantly insists that the mission isn’t personal, yet the intricate web of challenges he faces adds layers of complexity to his journey. This skilled killer, well-versed in the art of survival, now finds himself entangled in a high-stakes game where distinguishing between loyalty and self-preservation becomes increasingly elusive.

The film began with the killer perched atop the highest floor of a building, carefully surveying the apartment directly in front of him. Contemplating the routine nature of his profession, he conveyed the notion that those lacking the patience for monotony should steer clear of such a career. As he waited, he shared his thoughts on life and the insights gained from his truth-seeking endeavours. Rejecting the idea of karma, he argued that the concept of an afterlife was a creation of fearful imagination, maintaining that our current existence leads to a vast, cold emptiness.
The killer led a rigorously disciplined life, methodically monitoring everything from his pulse to the duration of his essential sleep. Precision was a fundamental principle he adhered to. Stressing the importance of distrust and the absence of room for empathy in his line of work, he contended that empathy fosters vulnerability, making a person open to exploitation. Despite faithfully following these guidelines, he remained oblivious to the fact that a single misstep could trigger a series of events capable of completely overturning his life.
At last, the long-awaited target entered the neighbouring apartment. Composing himself, the assassin took the shot, only to his disappointment, miss the mark. Momentarily flustered, he realized he needed to swiftly adjust his plan and leave the scene to avoid detection by law enforcement authorities.
What Happened to the Assassin’s Family?
Following a failed mission, the killer escaped to the Dominican Republic. Upon arrival, he discovered his residence had been invaded, and his partner, Magdala, had suffered a brutal assault. Hurrying to the hospital, he encountered Marcus, Magdala’s brother, who informed him that two attackers had emerged from the home in a green taxi and targeted Magdala. Marcus disclosed that they were after information about the hitman, but Magdala remained silent. Determined to prevent a repeat incident, the hitman assured Marcus that he would take decisive action.
Later, the hitman found the green taxi used by the assailants and confronted its driver, a young man named Leo. In a state of fear, Leo revealed details about the attackers’ appearance and pleaded for his life. Understanding the need to tie up loose ends, the hitman reluctantly shoots and kills Leo in the cab.
Subsequently, the hitman confronted his handler, Edward Hodges, who suspected the hitman of orchestrating the assault on his own family. Gaining access to the building, the hitman pressured Edward for information on who authorized the attack. Edward, citing confidentiality, refused to disclose names. In response, the hitman used a nail-punching machine to end Edward’s life. Witnessing this, Edward’s assistant, Dolores, begged for mercy and offered to assist the hitman’s cause.
Dolores provided the hitman with the names of subcontractors and the main client involved. Unbeknownst to the hitman, Hodges had acted independently and arranged the attack. Seeking information from Magdala, they had punished her for her silence. After extracting the necessary details from Dolores, the hitman, suppressing any empathy, ruthlessly murdered her. Despite his reluctance, he recognized the limited options at his disposal, compelling him to carry out the cruel act.
Why Did He Not Kill the Client?
The assassin first went to St. Petersburg, Florida, where he located the individual involved in gathering information about him and attempting to harm his partner. Taking strategic measures, he drugged the man’s dog, intruded on his property, engaged in a confrontation, and ultimately killed him. Following this, he promptly journeyed to New York to confront the other woman who had accompanied his adversary. Termed as the Expert, she was taken by surprise during a restaurant encounter, resulting in a tense conversation with unpredictable outcomes.
After the dinner, they ventured outside, and the hitman pre-emptively shot the woman before she could execute any deceits. Progressing to the final phase of his mission, the assassin easily discerned the whereabouts, daily routine, and hangouts of Claybourne, the client. Penetrating the high-security billionaire’s apartment was not a formidable task, and once again, the hitman seized his target off guard.
In the end, the killer finds out that Hodges acted independently, motivated by an additional 150 thousand dollars from the client. Claybourne remained oblivious to the assassin’s identity, having merely followed Hodges’ guidance. Departing after issuing a warning, the hitman conveyed that any return visit would ensure a more severe fate for Claybourne. A frightened Claybourne pleaded that he held no animosity and promised to forget the encounter.
This marked a rare display of empathy from the hitman, raising the possibility that it could have repercussions in the future. In the epilogue, the Killer, now reflecting on a tranquil moment with his partner, contemplated the potential consequences of violating his cardinal rule, realizing he might be just one among many, especially after breaking his own principles despite understanding the potential fallout.
