The Griot Ending Explained
In the second half of the story, after Sanmi is made one of the chiefs of Wakajaye land, he grows extremely arrogant. He would show off his wealth and fame to everyone around him. He started to use and take advantage of his friends and was also ungrateful towards Lakunle, who had helped him with every story he recited in the King’s presence. Sanmi would only meet him when he wanted another story.
Later we could also see how he was trying to marry Tiwa, the girl Lakunle was in love with. Tiwa straight-up rejected him because she liked Lakunle as well. Feeling enraged, Sanmi decided to take matters into his own hands and ask the King for help. The King sent the proposal of Samni’s wish to marry Tiwa to her parents.
Who did Tiwa End Up With?
When Tiwa went to Lakunle’s house one day, she convinced him to say whatever he had been hiding. He finally confessed his feelings to her. Upon conversing, they also found out how Samni had been lying, and he wanted Tiwa for himself.
Even when Tiwa’s parents forced her to marry Sanmi, she refused. Her feelings for Lakunle were true, and she was adamant about only being with him. Her mother was seen making her impossible, but she did not falter.

Did Lakunle Tell The Truth?
After Lakunle learned that Sanmi had betrayed him, he cut all his ties with the latter. When his relationship with Tiwa started to bloom, he discovered that the King had ordered Tiwa to marry Sanmi. Eventually, he was found helpless as he could not do anything about it.
Later in the story, Sanmi was seen asking for help with another story from Lakunle but refused. Tiwa encouraged Lakunle to tell a story by himself to the King and show off his talent. But he was hesitant because of his shyness. Later, with Tiwa’s help, he was able to overcome it.
During the village festival, when everyone was looking for Sanmi, he was nowhere to be found. He fled the village because he had no story to tell the King at the festival. Right then, Lakunle stood before the King and told the truth behind Sanmi’s stories. The King got upset about the situation but gave Lakule a chance to tell a story and prove that he was telling the truth. The King was left impressed by his recital and complimented him.

Was Sanmi Caught?
Sanmi was eventually caught and brought back to the village festival. He was stripped of his title and banished from the city. He started living in a forest and looked extremely distressed. He was homeless and poor and asked his friends to meet him near the village.
With the help of his friends, he managed to take Tiwa hostage while his friends captured Lakunle. Sanmi had a knife in his hands and threatened to kill Tiwa. Ultimately he stabbed Tiwa, causing her to collapse, and he fled from the scene. In the end, Lakunle was left with her lifeless body.
