The Great Indian Musical: Deepika Padukone to Alia Bhatt, Stars Who Shone Bright at the Opening

Putting Indian performing arts and culture on the map, the Nita Mukesh Ambani Cultural Centre (NMACC) at Jio World Centre in Mumbai is opening a new chapter with Feroz Abbas Khan’s theatrical extravaganza – The Great Indian Musical. On March 31, 2023, NMACC opened the doors to a novel beginning for Indian fine arts, theatre, music and craft, and as we would have it, celebrities galore turned up for the launch and made it a star-studded event.

The Ambami family attended the event to welcome the entertainment fraternity, with guests trickling in from domestic and international grounds. Bollywood divas especially took this opportunity to step into their best shoes and grand attires for the evening. Here are the fashion looks donned by some of our favourites, which definitely made heads turn for the effort and thought put behind their choices for the night.

Bollywood Divas at The Great Indian Musical Opening

1. Deepika Padukone

Looking at Deepika Padukone’s lavish and regal attire, we can hear the grand BGM from Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s films ringing in our ears. For the opening of NMACC, Padukone wore a custom bejewelled suit by Anamika Khanna, and the stylist who put her entire look together, which screams divine power, is Shaleena Nathani. Gabriel Georgiou arranged her hair in a low ponytail, which made room for a celestial maang tikka that added more star power to her look.

Her golden image further takes the royal factor a notch higher with the embellished and embroidered cape that supports her back and proves Ariana Grande’s words that God is indeed a woman. The winged-eye make-up is concocted by Kritika Gill, which works magic with the entire get-up that sounded the alarm that things just got serious as soon as Deepika walked out for the launch. The huge drop-shaped earring praises her side profile more than ever, thereby proving no matter which direction she turns to, each angle will inevitably catch her best look as she stays in her composed and sophisticated element.

2. Alia Bhattt

If Deepika is the Sun, Alia is the Moon. Shining bright as ever, Alia Bhatt‘s newest look completely took our breath away. Making everything look as effortless as breathing, Bhatt became one with her platinum get-up for the night. Almost as if personifying the toned-down beauty and serenity of the Moon, she was styled by Rhea Kapoor, Manisha Melwani and Sanya Kapoor, who picked the custom-made saree by Vaishali S Couture. Keeping things subtle, there’s nothing over-the-top about her outfit and the same classy minimalism that makes her stand out.

With diamond flower earrings by Birdhichand Ghanshyamdas, a broad neck-hugging necklace by Tallin Jewels and a bracelet by Renu Oberoi Luxury Jewellery, the actor owns her look with her sleek bun, all tied up by hair stylist Ayesha DeVitre. Her warm-toned makeup was taken care of by Riddhima Sharma.

3. Kareena Kapoor Khan

If Alia kept things on the warm side of things, Kareena Kapoor Khan balances them out by setting the scene ablaze in her glittering red lehenga. While Tarannum khan worked on the make-up look, Aanchal Morwani gathered her hair together in a humble bun that accentuated the dramatic design of trinkets on her back. Divyak D’Souza was her stylist for the night, who went for Anjul Bhandari’s ‘Surkh Laal’ lehenga that was carried through with a long sky dupatta tied at the back in a bow-tie shape.

Shweta Gupta’s Bespoke Vintage Jewels came to her aid as they added that extra story to the whole with their handcrafted fineness that speaks volumes for India’s heritage and poetically reflects the event that the Bollywood diva stopped out for. Kareena’s style for the night appears to be reminiscent and also a desi reworking of the red outfit she wore as Poo in Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham.

4. Shah Rukh Khan

Shah Rukh Khan, the nation’s Pathaan, is the Man in Black for NMACC. Opposed to the grand attired donned by other stars, the only fashion accessory that King Khan needs is his aura, and the rest falls in place without him breaking a sweat. As he showed up in his bespoke tailored menswear crafted by the brand Masculine tonight, Shaleena Nathani stepped in as his stylist and chose a minimal low-hanging pendant by Amrapali Jewels to deck his chest, which is otherwise left bared by the deep-cut V-neck black t-shirt underneath.
Raaj Gupta left him with a slick, gelled hairstyle, which the evergreen Bollywood hero owns with panache, and we can’t stop swooning over the romance-turned-action baadshah of the industry.
