The Girls at the Back (Las de la última fila) is Netflix’s upcoming Spanish series about a group of five friends who take a beautiful trip for a heart-touching reason. Produced by Atípica Films, the show stars Maria Rodríguez Soto, Itsaso Arana, Mariona Terés, Godeliv Van den Brandt, Monica Miranda, alongside other cast members.
The Girls at the Back revolves around a trip taken by five friends before the first chemotherapy session of one of the ladies who has discovered her cancer. The ladies then take turns to challenge their bucket lists which will make them rediscover themselves.
The trailer of this upcoming show gives us a glimpse of the strong friendship that they share which makes them go to the extent of shaving off their heads to accompany their friend. We do not know which one of the ladies is the cancer patient as they all are seen struggling through this time.

With challenges written on various pieces of paper, the group selects one activity each day that they’ve written on these pieces. Some, exciting while some unexpected, the trip moves forward as they share the burden of the disease together. But this is not the only thing that they share as fears and revelations also make their way into this holiday.
And by the end, this trip may have ended but the real journey is yet to begin.
The trailer brings up our interest towards this series but it is also true that this is not a very rare theme. Having friendship, a trip, a disease, in one story sounds similar to what we’ve seen before so it will be interesting to see how this show brings something new to the table.
Honestly, this show is giving me some serious Another Self vibes right now and I’m really hoping that there’s something different to this journey because the Turkish show won’t be easy to stand against.
The Girls at the Back is set to release on September 23, 2022, and will be available to stream on Netflix.
