The Girl I Like Forgot Her Glasses Episode 2 Review: An Unexpected Date

The Girl I Like Forgot Her Glasses Episode 2 premiered on July 11, 2023. Also known as Suki na Ko ga Megane wo Wasureta (好きな子がめがねを忘れた) is based on the Japanese manga series of the same name, written and illustrated by Koume Fujichika. Directed by Susumu Kudo and Katsumasa Yokomine, the series is animated under GoHands Studios. Tamazo Yanagi writes the story, and Jimmy Thumb P gives the music for the series.

The plot of the romance anime follows a flimsy high school boy named Komura who has a deep and prolonged crush on his classmate, Ai Mie. The two have never talked before, even though they sit next to each other in class. However, things soon start to change after Ai forgets to wear her glasses to school and starts relying on Komura for school activities.

The opening theme song, Name, is performed by Tsuzuri and the ending theme song, Megane Go Round, is performed by Masayoshi Ōishi along with Masahiro Itō and Shion Wakayama. The series is scheduled to run for a total of 13 episodes and has an estimated duration of 20-25 minutes. Licensed by Crunchyroll, the show is available with official English subtitles on the platform available in selected regions.

The second episode of the series is as visually pleasing as the first one. Animators have been consistent with the intricate character design at every frame without fail. Each aspect of the characters is extremely detailed, providing a sharp and clear image. Moreover, the included scenic beauty throughout the episode enhances the viewers’ experience and allowing the fans to indulge in the adorable moments entirely.

Plot-wise, the story has not moved forward in a drastic manner. At a slow and steady pace, the characters are becoming closer to each other through the circumstances. As Ai constantly forgets to wear her glasses, Komura is always found by her side to help her out. His feelings for him run deeper as he feels the need to protect her from every situation at all costs.

Komura’s impression of her, in the beginning, was of a perfect being who could absolutely do no wrong. However, after getting to know her on a personal level, he views her more as a human rather than putting her on a pedestal. He sees her wrongs and shortcomings, but he never judges her based on that. Rather he finds her antics cute, and it did not falter his feelings whatsoever.

Even though they used to sit next to each other, Ai completely ignored him prior to forgetting her glasses to class. But after engaging in small talks with Komura, she also has subconsciously formed a soft spot for him. He is now turned out to be the most reliable person in her life that she can call out for at any time of the day.

Certain moments will surely leave a warm and fuzzy feeling. The instances manage to tug at the heartstrings, instantly making the viewers root for the couple to get together. Although the pacing of the show is slow, it has a consistent pace and provides an entire picture of how the relationship will develop further.
