The Fragrant Flower Blooms with Dignity Overview

The Fragrant Flower Blooms with Dignity is a heartfelt Japanese manga by Saka Mikami. The series first launched on Kodansha’s Magazine Pocket app and website in October 2021. Since then, it has steadily gained popularity, with 17 compiled volumes available as of June 2025. It is known for its gentle pacing, emotional depth, and relatable characters. It also blends romance with slice-of-life storytelling very well.
Building on the manga’s success, an anime television adaptation was officially revealed during the Aniplex Online Fest held on September 16, 2024. Produced by CloverWorks, the anime premiered on July 6, 2025, airing on Tokyo MX and other Japanese networks. The anime is directed by Miyuki Kuroki, with Satoshi Yamaguchi as assistant director. Rino Yamazaki handles the series composition, Kohei Tokuoka is in charge of the character designs, and Moeki Harada composes the music.

The opening theme, “Manazashi wa Hikari” by Tatsuya Kitani, and the ending theme, “Hare no Hi ni” by Reira Ushio, perfectly complement the anime’s tender tone. International viewers can enjoy the series on Netflix, where episodes are released weekly in sync with the Japanese broadcast, with global rollout continuing through 2025. The adaptation is already earning praise for preserving the charm and emotional subtlety that made the manga so beloved.
The Fragrant Flower Blooms with Dignity Episode 1 Review

A very promising romance anime is finally here, and honestly, I liked it as a shoujo manga enthusiast. The premise is an interesting one where we see two schools having distinct features and are situated side by side. One is an elegant private girls’ school that houses students with exceptional abilities or who are from well-established families. Whereas beside them, we have a public boys’ school where mostly idiots or troublemakers go.
As these two schools are very different from one another, the girls from the private school make sure to portray their disgust whenever they come across the boys from the public school. In such a scenario, Rintaro, our hero, does not really fit into the narrative. Even though he looks menacing and scary from his physical appearance, he is actually a misunderstood guy who is kinder than anyone else. And every moment he scares someone off, he blames himself for causing problems. Thankfully, his life changes for the better the moment he meets Wagurui.

Wagurui is a regular customer at Rintaro’s pastry shop, which his parents own and one day, these two meet, just like that. Though their meeting starts off with a minor misunderstanding, Rintaro finally understands that Wagurui is not at all afraid of him. On the contrary, Wagurui likes his company and even blushes frequently whenever encountering him. Rintaro, being so self-critical, does not really believe that there can be someone who is willing to accept him for who he is, but he gets proven wrong right away.
Verdict

Honestly, this anime story is not that unique, as this kind of setup is very apparent in a typical shoujo manga. However, if the treatment is good, this can definitely become a very good romance anime of 2025. Apart from that, the animation is also really good, and the music definitely complements the story in its own way.
So yes, do check it out as soon as possible.
