The Eminence in Shadow Episode 5 Review: The Ultimate Move

The Eminence in Shadow (陰の実力者になりたくて!) is back with the much-awaited 5th episode, and we need to talk about it. We got action, new characters and many more from this already cast-heavy series. So without further ado, let us jump right into this review.

The Eminence in Shadow Episode 5 Overview

This series has garnered quite the hype after its release. And the credit surely goes to good animation, a relatable male lead and a bunch of beautiful anime girls who are sure to start waifu wars.

The anime is directed by Nakanishi Kazuya, who is also famous for his work with Re:Zero kara Hajimeru Isekai SeikatsuTrinity SevenStrike the Blood, etc. Nexus studio is handling the animation, which despite not being very famous in its field, is delivering satisfactory results as of now.

I have tried my best to keep the review as spoiler free as possible, but there are certain elements that I had to mention to give proper feedback.

The Eminence in Shadow Episode 5 Review and Recap – The Undefeated

The episode picked up from where it left in the last episode, and we already knew a showdown between Cid and Zenon was about to happen. And it did happen with a bang solidifying the overpowered MC tag for our protagonist.

Really nothing fazes Cid, he is bodying enemies left and right with a cool outfit and borderline corny dialogues, which surprisingly suit him. Plus, he has his own extremely powerful women soldiers at his disposal who have almost as broken abilities as him.

The episode was action-packed as we saw both Alpha and Cid defeating enemies in two different spots. The monster who got out in the previous episode was no match before Alpha, even when it gave princess Iris quite a hard time.

So one thing is clear, it is not just Cid who is powerful but his followers as well. And by the way, the anime is going, I doubt any antagonist can come close to challenging the Shadow Garden members.

This episode also prepares us for upcoming episodes by confirming how the two opposing forces of the series will be Shadow Garden and The Cult of Diabolos. Things will not stay as comedic as it was, and we have already stepped into bigger conspiracies and inner threats.

Episode 5 definitely quenched the thirst for action lovers as we got to see Cid’s ultimate move, which is easily capable of wiping out cities. The inspiration behind it is also something very personal to him and comes from his past life. I must add that I would not have guessed the name of his final move ever, a fitting name indeed for the one wanting to withstand even a nuclear bomb in his past life.

But do not worry; it is not all serious with this anime. After the epic showdown, we see how Cid has managed to pull Alexia into his harem of girls as well. She, too, falls for him and even offers to continue their fake relationship. But our hero refuses to be a simp and outright rejects her without even giving it a single thought. And that did not end well for him.

Verdict

Yes, the episode was entertaining, and yes, it is your generic, run-of-the-mill harem isekai anime. But I have said it before, and I will say it again, those who like isekais will absolutely love the series where the protagonist is what every otaku dreams to be. He is diligent, hard-working, does not take your shit and doesn’t give a damn that he has a harem. But if we talk about the anime story itself, it is not something you have never seen before. The series is still unexpected and funny, and at the same time, the actions are nice to witness. All in all, it is a fun watch for those who love this genre. Watch this anime on Netflix.
