The Case Study Of Vanitas Season 2 Episode 12 Review: A Powerful Finale

The final episode of the show, The Case Study Of Vanitas Season 2 Episode 12 stands on the brink of the destruction of multiple characters. There’s a lot to talk about, so let’s get right into the review!

The Case Study Of Vanitas Season 2 Episode 12 Overview

The Case Study Of Vanitas Season 2 Episode 12 Title

The Case Study of Vanitas, or Vanitas no Carte in original Japanese, is a supernatural, historical, and vampire show based upon a manga written by Jun Mochizuki. It follows the human-vampire duo of Vanitas and Noe as they try to find out the perpetrator behind the recent impurity in the vampires’ hearts. This episode is also called Vanitas no Carte Season 2 Episode 12, The Case Study of Vanitas Part 2 Episode 12, and Vanitas no Carte Part 2 Episode 12.

This season of Vanitas is being brought to the medium of anime by Studio Bones, a giant behind classic anime shows such as Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood and My Hero Academia. The season is being directed by Tomoyuki Itamura, who also directed part 1 of the show, alongside several shows of the Monogatari series. The Case Study Of Vanitas Season 2 Episode 12 Review- The Future

Fight The Case Study Of Vanitas Season 2 Episode 12

The first thing anyone would notice about this episode was that it looked astounding. The series has always been well animated, but it seemed like for the final outing, the animators and the studio went the extra mile to deliver something that fans everywhere would notice and appreciate. At times, this episode looked positively magical with its close-up shots and live-action looking water animations. The show also sounded great, but that’s what it always does, so the animation stood out more.

The second thing that viewers would have noted was the cold open and the title card in the front instead of the end. As we talked about in our Genius Prince Review, when done sparsely and before important moments, a cold open can increase the tension and anticipation of said moment tenfold. Vanitas made fantastic use of that by placing the aftermath of the Noe-Vanitas battle in the forefront and thus acting as an emotional anchor for the entire episode. This episode did wonders for the relationship between Vanitas and Noe.

Misha The Case Study Of Vanitas Season 2 Episode 12

The rest of the episode was pretty much what we have come to expect from Vanitas as a show. There was a surprising reveal that doesn’t make much sense right now but will probably be elaborated upon in the future. The situation took a few hail marys and outside help to resolve, but that didn’t diminish the emotional impact it had at its end. Misha’s arc is one that has also been left for the future seasons to answer, alongside several other revelations that we can’t talk about due to respecting spoiler warnings.

Vanitas is still a somewhat mysterious character, but he’s more human now than when he started his journey to heal all the other vampires. His relationship with Noe feels genuine and natural, and the show has nurtured it well for quite a while now. While everything doesn’t make sense to any of them or the audience, now that Noe was the only person to break Vanitas’ hypnosis and make him learn how to trust again, they feel stronger than ever before. This was an extremely satisfying finale to this season.

The lore behind the vampires and all the troubles in this world was enhanced a lot in The Case Study Of Vanitas Season 2 Episode 12, and there are several characters in the mix now who have a stake in the events that are going to occur in the future. However, the future doesn’t look very bright for fans of this anime as the show has caught up to the latest chapter in the manga. Unless we go anime-only, which isn’t recommended, we will have to wait a while for Vanitas Season 3 or 2, depending on how you view this one. Whenever it happens, the show has left us with a great ending point nonetheless.

Verdict

The Case Study Of Vanitas Season 2 Episode 12 was a great and well made episode that left the audiences wanting more and greatly expanded its universe. Don’t wait for a Season 3 anytime soon, though.
