Taxi Driver Season 2 Episode 1 Recap and Review: The Rainbow Taxi Team is Back!

Taxi Driver Season 2 (모범택시 2) is the sequel to the crime thriller drama of the same name directed by Lee Dan, starring Lee Je-hoon, Kim Eui-sung, Pyo Ye-jin, Jang Hyuk-jin, Bae Yoo-ram, and Shin Jae-ha, alongside other cast members.

The sequel of the Kdrama brings us new adventures of the Rainbow Taxi crew as they set to punish a new bunch of criminals while facing some old faces that are back for revenge. As bigger and more dangerous challenges await the team, the exciting game is back with new looks and new faces in the team.

The show will have 16 episodes and will be broadcasted on SBS on the Friday-Saturday slot at 10 PM previously occupied by Payback: Money and Power. Taxi Driver season 2 episode 1 has a run time of 61 minutes.

The synopsis of the show reads:

Do Ki seals the end of the painful vengeance against his mother’s killer, but the wounds remain. On Ha-joon newly joins Rainbow Transport as a troublemaker taxi driver, and he holds Do Ki as his role model. Ha-joon accidentally finds a secret passage that leads to the underground maintenance room. What is this place for?

Taxi Driver season 2 episode 1 begins with news of various criminal cases being broadcasted on the news while the public fury continues to shift from one case to another. Among these is the case of 3 men who have been imprisoned for running a pornographic site where they have published content of their many targets.

Among them is one who has even tried to comment suicide. The scene then shifts to the prison where the three are being taken to court for their trial, however, there is no fear or remorse on their faces as they are sure to be put on probation after the trial.

Kim Do-gi is seen taken to court along with the three men as another inmate; he warns them to put on their seatbelts while on the way, right before the van meets with an accident and flips over. Do-gi then brings the three out with him and escapes the scene in his taxi while Choi Kyung-goo and Park Jin-eon pop out from behind.

Do-gi then gives them some drinks which makes them lose consciousness while a backup team of police and an ambulance drive to the scene. At an abandoned building, the three wake up to see the news of their escape; but what shocks them is the news that they have escaped with weapons and are now sure to get a life imprisonment sentence.

They start panicking when the police arrive and arrest them while the three shout that they hadn’t done anything. Meanwhile, Do-gi and the rest of the team witness the scene from afar while Jang Sung-chul gets his hands on the money that the criminals had hidden in a locker.

The scene then shifts to two years back when the Rainbow Taxi team disbanded following which Sung-chul was arrested, and while he was cleared of all charges, his taxi business hit rock bottom within a year. With no one but Do-gi left behind, he asks Sung-chul why he resists calling the other back.

Sung-chul tells him that he doesn’t wish to involve them anymore and disrupt their lives, which is why he behaves sternly every time the others visit him. However, he hasn’t let Do-gi go because he is aware that Do-gi will return to doing what they did if left alone.

Elsewhere, Kyung-goo and Jin-eon can’t stop thinking of their days in the Rainbow Taxi team while Go-eun comes across a distressed father who is looking for his son. Go-eun asks her seniors why they can’t help him out to which she gets the reply to just mind her own work and not get involved in other departments.

Distressed, she too wishes to go back to the Rainbow Taxi team while Sung-chul goes around sticking the advertisement to call them for help around the city. The scene then shifts to the same distressed father who is pushed to the edge of wanting to commit suicide when he sees the ad where he can call for help.

Sung-chul hears his pleas and Do-gi arrives to hear his story where they find out that his son had applied for a job behind his back and left to go abroad in the name of an exchange program. He found out about the job when he lost all contact with his son after which he made his way to Cotaya, Vietnam, to meet his son.

However, what he found there was farmland and nothing that looked like a company. He tried to get help from the police only to be denied as his son is of legal age. Later, he finds a letter in his mail from his son which seemed more like a suicide note where his son tells him about being a gambler which was later confirmed by the police who were told that his son had already contacted the embassy.

Unable to believe this, he continues to find help on his own and even distributed posters of his son to get help until he could no longer hold his grievances and decided to die. Having heard his story, Do-gi shows Sung-chul why they should take the case by telling him to focus on the letter sent by the son, Lee Dong-jae.

Taxi Driver Season 2 Episode 1 Ending

Taxi Driver season 2 episode 1 ends with Sung-chul finding a message in morse code at the end of the letter which decrypts to “Save Me”, and they decide to take on the case. The deluxe taxi is once again taken out and they are ready for their mission, however, time and the not-so-good maintenance have definitely taken a toll on everything.

Meanwhile, Sung-chul too tries to find information with the help of Go-eun’s diary containing her notes which only further adds to the stress. Do-gi then decides on taking matters into his hands and following Dong-jae’s route, thus, he too applies to the same company and makes his way to Vietnam.

Meanwhile, Kyung-goo and Jin-eon visit Sung-chul and find out that something is fishy and decide to meet Go-eun to discuss this.

Elsewhere, Do-gi soon finds out that this company is abusive and lures young men with a computer science background to make illegal online gambling games for them. In an abusive environment, the men are left with no other choice but to follow their wishes as they spend their days learning to program and abide by their wishes.

Do-gi is angered by this, but he has fallen too deep into their trap and now has to make his way out with no help. The scene then shifts and we see Mrs Lim from season 1 as she still obsesses over Do-gi and is determined to get her revenge for what he did to her, thus, ending the episode.

Taxi Driver Season 2 Episode 1 Review

This has definitely been a good start to the new season and what really makes us appreciate it all is how there has been no skip in the content and is a proper continuation from where the adventures of the Rainbow Taxi team ended back in 2021.

The show has definitely gotten better and there is no doubt that the many cases ahead are only exciting us more and more. The team is finally back and this episode has made it clear that we are sure to get the best out of this season.
