Task Episode 1 Recap

The episode opens with Tom Brandis and Robbie, two people belonging to two different worlds, getting ready for their day. While Robbie starts his shift as an ordinary garbage collector, Tom gets ready for a seminar as an FBI agent. Their lives seem ordinary, where Robbie is discussing getting back into the dating world once again, while Tom sits at his booth trying to recruit interested people.

However, there’s something darker at play for Robbie as he goes through the trash that he collects, planning something dangerous. Meanwhile, Tom is still grappling with the heartbreak of a family tragedy and rethinks his decision to provide a victim impact statement against the perpetrators.

That night, Robbie, Cliff and Peaches decide to rob the trap house they have been targeting, which turns violent. The next morning, Tom is called in to work by Kathleen McGinty, who assigns him to a task force and sends him out into the field. Tom is unhappy with the sequence of events, but doesn’t have much of a choice in the matter and gets to work. Meanwhile, enjoying another job well done, Robbie and his crew enjoy a fun time when he is sent another lead for the next burglary spot.

As Robbie and Maeve butt heads, Ted meets his new teammates, and it’s definitely an adjustment with Lizzie bringing in a lot of personal chaos. As Tom grapples with his heartbreak over his family, Robbie and his team pull off another heist, which ends in a disaster as it turns out to be a bad tip. In the ensuing fight, Peaches is shot and killed. Just as they are about to walk out, though, a young boy walks in and sees their faces, and the robbers have no other choice but to take him with them.

As Tom is called to the scene with his task force, they are shocked to see the carnage and the missing boy.

I think the first episode is quite interesting and creates a very detailed view of all the characters and their place in the story. The worldbuilding is very interesting, and the tense atmosphere adds to the intrigue of the story and promises morally grey characters in difficult situations trying to simply keep their loved ones happy. I am looking forward to seeing where the story goes from here.
