Task Ending Explained: Is Tom Able to Arrest Robbie? What Happens to Jayson?

Task Ending Explained: When several houses in Philadelphia start to get robbed, things go out of hand in one of these situations, resulting in a task force, headed by Tom Brandis, to investigate. What comes out is a shocking web of lies that leaves a lot of lives devastated.

Task has 7 episodes and will stream from September 7, 2025, to October 19, 2025. Each episode has a runtime of around 60 minutes.

Task Ending Explained

The series opens with Tom Brandis being brought back into the field after a string of robberies in Philadelphia results in several casualties and a missing boy. Tom is given a Task Force to head and figure out who is behind the crimes, and he and Anthony Grasso, Aleah Clinton, and Elizabeth “Lizzie” Stover immediately jump in to figure out who could be behind the situation. Although they realise that Dark Hearts members are being targeted, they are unable to figure out who it could be.

Investigations lead them to realise that not only it’s someone connected to the Dark Hearts themselves but there might be a mole in their own team as information starts to leak out one after the other. Meanwhile, the perpetrator of the entire thing, Robbie, finds himself in a bind as well after he his plan fails. Their plan initially was to rob the house that was supposed to have a lot of money but they instead end up with a bag full of drugs that they cannot move now that the gang is aware of what to look out for.

As time runs out, Maeve, Robbie’s niece, figures out Sam’s real identity and grapples with the decision to go to the police. As the situation unfolds and Tom and his team get closer and closer to the truth, Perry and Jayson, two Dark Hearts members, realise Robbie’s involvement in the mess. Perry kills Eryn, Jayson’s girlfriend, after he realises that she has been giving out information to Robbie and the two go after Robbie. Meanwhile, Tom finds out that the gun that was used in the botched robbery was used in a Dark Hearts shooting situation years ago and connects two and two together.

Why was Robbie robbing houses?

In a revenge plot, Robbie was robbing house of Dark Hearts members after they killed his brother, Billy, a few years ago. It’s a deep wound that the family carries with them, especially because it was done unfairly and left everyone devastated. Eryn was also helping them because he was in love with Billy and wanted revenge as well.

Is Tom able to catch Robbie?

Tom eventually does catch up to Robbie and the two decide to work together after Robbie realises that things have gone too far. Unfortunately, their plans to nab Jayson and Perry fall apart when Robbie is shot in a shootout and eventually dies. In the same incident, Lizzie is killed by Jayson which leaves the team devastated.

Who is the mole?

The mole turns out to be Anthony, which Tom gets to know after Lizzie’s death. He has been accused of derailing other investigations against the Dark Hearts as well and Tom promises to go after him as a form of revenge. In the end, however, Anthony is shot by one of the Dark Hearts when he decides to stop this madness and live a better life. In a final act of courage, he decides to warn Maeve that Jayson is coming for her and eventually shoots him when he tries to hurt her.

Anthony is eventually hospitalised and will be facing jail time, but he agrees to help the police uncover this conspiracy.

What happens in the end?

In the end, Tom lets go of the hurt that he had held on to for so long and forgives Ethan for killing Susan. It’s a hard and heartbreaking thing, but he finally does realise that it’s the right thing to do. Elsewhere, Maeve decides to leave behind her life in the town and restarts her life with her young cousins who are all now orphans. The last scene shows Tom repainting Ethan’s room after Sam is adopted by another family, having chosen to not be selfish with his love and letting Sam live the life that he deserves.
