Tale of the Nine Tailed 1938: First Poster Reveals Lee Dong-wook’s New Distorted Reality in Kdrama Sequel

After blessing us with a great fantastical storyline, acting performances and a lovely soundtrack, Tale of the Nine Tailed 1938, i.e. the second season of the much-loved and appreciated Korean drama series, is coming back on tvN. The official social media pages of the South Korean television network have unveiled the first poster of the upcoming K-drama sequel starring Lee Dong-wook as Lee Yeon on March 28, 2023.

Tale of the Nine tailed 1938
Still from the first season.

Also starring Jo Bo-ah as Yi Ah-eum and Kim Bum as Lee Rang, the first instalment of the series came out in October 2020 and wrapped up the storyline on a happy note after a run of 16 episodes, concluding in December. The show revolved around the mythical creature nine-tailed fox, also known as gumiho, living its life in the modern world.

The latest update on the upcoming series sequel features the leading actor, Dong-wook, in his signature trench coat look. He faces an unforeseen predicament of the world getting distorted. This new mishap pulls him back to 1938, as the new title suggests. As a result, the new season will deal with his struggles to return to the present reality.

The poster also hints at the same idea as the street Dong-wook is standing in represents the past that he’s been summoned to, whereas, at the top of the poster, a slight dark reflection of the modern world he’s well acquainted with and probably now separated from is pictured as a bittersweet reminder too. Previously, he’d already had a hard time adjusting to the human world, but the new season is again bringing him a challenge that will surely keep all audiences entertained through and through.

When is Season 2 Releasing?

In May 2022, Dong-wook and Kim Bum’s presence in the new season was confirmed beforehand. In addition, newcomers Kim So-yeon and Ryu Kyung-soo will join them, and the former will replace Jo Bo-ah. Season 2 starts airing on May 6, 2023, at 9:20 PM on tvN, following the finale of Pandora: Beneath the Paradise. The previous season was also streamed on Netflix for international audiences, so the new chapter will likely follow the same pattern. The director and scriptwriter from the previous run – Kang Shin-hyo and Han Woo-ri, respectively – will collaborate again for this creative venture.

Netflix and Prime Video subscribers can catch Season 1 on the respective OTT platforms. Additionally, the series is also streaming on Viki for free.
