Spy x Family Season 3 Episode 1 Recap

Anya spends her time running around, eating ice cream, and eyeing some balloons, until her fun is abruptly interrupted by a troubling vision from Bond. In this vision, a man operating heavy machinery suddenly loses control and begins hurling trees at random people. Anya soon learns that the man, frustrated and overworked from not getting a holiday, has snapped after seeing others enjoy their day off and plans to take out his anger on them.

Sensing the danger, Anya cleverly convinces her parents to leave the park. Along the way, she spots the agitated worker and discreetly alerts Loid. Realising the seriousness of the situation, Loid quickly intervenes to stop the chaos. Yor also gets her moment to shine by showing off her incredible strength by rescuing an elderly man and even knocking down part of a building with a powerful kick. Despite all the heroics, the episode ends on a humorous note as Anya still can’t escape the one thing she dreads most, which is homework.

The second half shifts to a more action-oriented tone as Fiona embarks on a mission to retrieve critical information. She teams up with Frankie, and the two set out to find someone capable of forging a document. Their dynamic turns out to be surprisingly entertaining, with their banter and teamwork making for a refreshing change from Fiona’s usual obsession with Loid.

This episode opens with Eden College, where a strict teacher gives Tonitrus bolts to a student who was caught smoking. Later, we see Damian and his friends bad-mouthing Anya and also claiming that she will be the first one to get 10 Tonitrus bolts and drop out. Needless to say, Becky claps back right away, and they end up making a dumb wager. Later, we get to see what kind of problem Anya will have to deal with in this episode, and it is in the form of Miss Schlag, who gives Tonitrus bolts without thinking for a second.

Apparently, she used to terrorise students in the past and had been in hospital because she was sick. Now that she is healthy again, she is back with her bolts. Her inner monologues are hilarious, which reveals that she doesn’t care who she picks; she just wants to punish students for no reason. But Damian falls into a huge problem because he forgets to bring his handkerchief. This is where Anya comes to his rescue and gives him her own handkerchief because she thought she had a second handkerchief.

Hilariously, she did not and got a Tonitrus bolt in the process. Needless to say, even though she managed to become closer to Damian, she made Loid lose consciousness from stress. In this episode, the second half was definitely a lot more serious because we see the past of Loid for the very first time. He is portrayed as a pretty happy child, even though his parents frequently fought. However, everything changed after the war.

I really love today’s episode because in the first half, it was really light-hearted and funny, but then it became very serious with Loid’s story. We finally get to see why he does what he does and how he became so unempathetic towards everything. I definitely think this is the best episode of this season yet.
