Spy x Family Season 2 Episode 3 Review: One of the most enigmatic characters of the show, Yuri, who is Yor’s biological younger brother returns in Spy x Family Season 2 Episode 3. Spy x Family Season 2 (スパイファミリー) is directed by Takahiro Harada and written by Ichirō Ōkouchi, replacing Kazuhiro Furuhashi as both the director and writer. Produced by Wit Studio and CloverWorks, the anime series is based on the manga series of the same name authored by Tatsuya Endo. The opening theme song is Kurakura (クラクラ) by Ado and the ending theme song is Todome no Ichigeki (トドメの一撃) by Vaundy feat. Cory Wong.

The plot of the series revolves around a family of three, who hide their identities from each other. It consists of an undercover spy, Twilight, with the alias, Loid Forger. His adopted daughter who has telepathic abilities, Anya Forger and his wife Yor Forger, an assassin known as the Thorn Princess, and the family dog Bond with precognitive power.

In the new episode, one of the most beloved characters of the series, Yuri, returns for another thrilling mission. Although Yuri has a reputation for being obsessively and platonically in love with his sister, which makes him do absurd things. However, this time we see a side of Yuri that we very rarely get to witness where he showcases his unwavering love for his country.
He is assigned a new mission where he has to apprehend a traitor and make his country a safe place again. The episode takes us through the thrilling process of how the Secret Police carry out their missions with efficiency. However, more than what typical missions are presumed to be, this time it is more about patience and waiting for the right time to act accordingly. Yuri displays a lot of seriousness to his job even though he usually comes off as a goofy character.
Nevertheless, his initial motivation to protect the country is still to make the world a better place to live in. His love and adoration for Yor never fade away no matter what happens. Despite having no evidence that Loid is a secret spy, he is still wary of her and feels the need to protect her from him constantly. Moreover, he even goes as far as to find Anya annoying because Yor showers all the love on her instead of him.
Both the format and the standard from the prior season were kept by the studio. This is distinguished from the competition by its excellent character qualities and fluid camera work. Also important to note is the outstanding job the voice actors performed in bringing the characters to life and adding their own flair. The music is yet another aspect of the show that ups its excitement.
Spy x Family Season 2 Episode 3 Review: Final Thoughts
From start to finish the episode is an entertaining rollercoaster ride. The episode delves more into the serious aspects of the series and deters away from the usual comedic moments. Moreover, the audience is able to relate to Yuri’s character more and his unique thought process of carrying out his missions. While the anime may not be a grand-scale project with a lavish production budget, it consistently delivers high-quality content that ensures a top-tier experience for the audience.
