It’s yet another bright day for the fans of the K-pop boy group SEVENTEEN (SVT). With countless things happening at the same time, let’s take a breath and breakdown some of the new developments in the ‘Sebong’ land. If you’re already a K-pop fan, you must be aware of the concept of light sticks in the Hallyu culture. Each group bears a unique lightstick that is usually carried around by the fans to various events like concerts, fan-events, fan-signs and more.
With this representative insignia in hand, it not only helps the fans to spot fellow members of their fan club, but also the artists who may otherwise be distantly raised on a platform from their fans. However, these lights in the distance are a reminder to K-pop bands that they’re not alone, and their admirers and supporters are always cheering on for them. PLEDIS Entertainment’s SEVENTEEN comprising thirteen members – S.Coups, Jeonghan, Joshua, Jun, Hoshi, Wonwoo, Woozi, DK, Mingyu, The8, Seungkwan, Vernon, and Dino – has now similarly come out with the third version of their light stick.
Additionally, the mega group’s special unit, BSS – Seungkwan, DK and Hoshi – has now taken away the third win for their titular track of Second Wind, i.e. Fighting ft. Lee Young-ji. The leading song of their official debut single album was co-written by SVT’s leader, S.Coups, and produced by their go-to men behind all of their hit releases – Woozi and BUMZU. Booseoksoon had initially won the first and second trophies for their comeback at Show Champion and M Countdown respectively, whereas today’s third win came their way at KBS’ Music Bank.

Coming back to the light stick discussion, the group’s previously adopted identifying official colours were Rose Quartz and Serenity, which were evidently reflected in the older light stick designs as well. CARATs, aka the fandom of the K-pop band, had already declared it to be one of the most beautiful commodities possessed by them because it directly highlighted their favourite music band’s identity and colours. The recently released concept teaser of its new rendition has taken them aback due to its complete transformation, with the bright choices being replaced by dark ones, almost as if the light stick, also called the ‘CARAT Bong’ has “turned emo”.
This revelation coincidentally precedes the few hours before the group’s main vocalist, DK and rapper, Vernon’s birthdays. Both of them share their birth dates on February 18, and just hours prior to this celebration, the new CARAT Bong design has been disclosed to the fans, who are still divided in terms of their responses to it. Vernon also came out with solo mixtape Black Eye in 2022, and its thematic presence was led by emo-punk characteristics since the singer holds artists like Avril Lavigne, Fall Out Boy and others as his musical inspiration.

CARATs have started speculating if this design was indeed curated by Vernon himself as they’re well aware of his affinity with emo concepts, and the black handle of the light stick is in line with the same vision. This has led the fans to record statements like, “In her Vernon era” for the CARAT Bong.
