At the beginning of the episode, we see a bunch of kids TPing cars and drawing penises on the windshields and the back window of the cars. This is the part where Julian comes in extremely angry, exclaiming how much he hates this holiday. Sean is making food for Dorothy when he starts laughing at his plight. Meanwhile, Leanne goes to check on the caretaking duo Bev and Bobby to find them going through old boxes of Dorothy’s mother’s clothes.

She reprimands them and asks them why they were prepping for something this childish. Bev and Bobby explain that Halloween is a time to let your darkest fantasies come to life, which isn’t a great thing to tell someone like Leanne, who has been speaking to her mother’s spirit (metaphorically) about how she likes hurting people when she is angry.

Leanne takes their word at heart and decides to dress up. She also takes Dorothy’s mother’s clothes to her homeless friends, asking them to remain vigilant while people are trick or treating because an attack could happen today. At this time, Bev and Bobby put Jericho in a pumpkin costume that could have been cuter, but because they didn’t have his costume from last year, they needed to think of something for him.

In this episode, we can see the accelerated effort that Sean is making in gaining Dorothy’s favour. He brings her lunch and even suggests a fantastic costume Jericho could wear to trick and treating around the neighbourhood. They go out, and Sean is dressed as a cartoon chef with a large moustache. However, he sees someone in a sheet dressed as a ghost and is reminded of the way Uncle George used to move around.

At this point, Leanne is enjoying scaring people and not in a good way. Julian has been reminding her that the kind of interactions she has been having with people is not normal. Obviously, Leanne doesn’t care and does her own thing. She meets Tobe outside, who is here only to be with her, but she sends him away. Another person with the same costume as Tobe starts following her, and she gets really angry when she sees a knife.

Choosing her moment to shine, she breaks the kid’s bone, finding out that he isn’t a threat at all. She goes around the neighbourhood scouting houses to make sure none of them is from the Church of the Lesser Saints. She even scares away all the people in the area by shorting the wires. However, Uncle George has infiltrated their area anyway, and Leanne is surely not safe anymore. He talks to Roscoe, the detective from the last few seasons, who joined Uncle George after the major traumatic event he went through.

They have something planned for Leanne in order to eradicate her. The only thing they are afraid of is the plan not working. If it doesn’t work, the city will fall, and death will just be the beginning of a long series of bad things happening. In the Turner household, Leanne reminds Sean that if he didn’t want all the good things happening to him, he should have chosen better. Sean finally makes up his mind and goes to Dorothy to tell her that he will now do everything in his power to get rid of Leanne, ending the episode.

Servant Season 4 Episode 4 Review

At this moment in the show, things were brewing for too long. Seeing Leanne embrace her dark side has definitely made audiences change their loyalties. There were moments we were rooting for Leanne but seeing the events of this season, the creators have been making viewers whether we should root for any character at all.

While the direction of this episode is not as great as the last one, there are visual moments that communicate symbolic relationships within the show. However, unlike the large presence of visual motifs in the last episode, this one relies on verbal and audio motifs, creating some dialogues that allude to the past.

The only thing that is keeping the suspense at the moment is Jericho and Leanne. Both their presences have been tainted since the beginning. The story had lost the gravity of Jericho’s death in the middle, however, the last two episodes have been showing that running away from the past doesn’t mean it won’t catch up with you. That has made this season extremely interesting because Dorothy will finally find out what happened to Jericho from the first season.

Probably, we can see what Uncle George and Roscoe have cooking up for Leanne in the next few episodes. There are still many questions, and these episodes are just keeping the top on before it blows off.
