Shrinking Episode 3 starts on a chirpy tone and finds Jimmy in a fun yet comical exchange with a racist neighbour, who is trying to throw out his patient Sean as an excuse for a safe neighbourhood. Suddenly, the series picks up the right pace and makes way for another round of grief battling.

Later on, Jimmy discovers that his friend and colleague Gaby is having an affair and decides to confront her about it. At a party, he approaches her and she tells him that her husband is aware of the situation and they are in the process of getting an amicable divorce. However, Jimmy is not satisfied with this answer and decides to talk to Paul for better advice. Moreover, Paul completely shuts Jimmy’s concern and tells him that he should not over-involve himself in other people’s lives and to stop finding ways to direct his grief elsewhere.

Aside from Jimmy’s personal drama, the episode also showcases the usual lighthearted moments between Alice and Sean (the patient who is staying with Jimmy). At first, the duo have a knick-and-knack dynamic, which eventually turns into a fun and acceptable bond.

In addition to the affairs and boundaries, the episode also sheds light on Paul’s struggle with Parkinson’s disease. Jimmy and Gaby become concerned about his driving skills and force him to take another driving test or let them pick him up for work. Furthermore, the episode also introduces a unique way in which Paul deals with his emotions.

The aloof therapist sets an alarm for 15 minutes and cries his heart out during this time. He mentions this technique to Alice who also implements it, and thereby depicts the impact that one person’s coping mechanism can have on others.

During the last half of the episode, we get to see that Gaby was just pretending in front of Jimmy. And in reality, she is actually sad and down. Even though Jimmy tries his best to console her, Gaby reminds him of his wife, who was the best companion that she ever had. On a usual note, the episode ends with a surprising note for Jimmy. Who finds his patient reconnecting with his toxic husband, thereby leading him to a second-guess about the new therapy method.

The latest instalment offers a well-rounded and emotional journey that tackles various themes including personal struggles, relationships, illness, and self-care. The episode starts with Jimmy discovering Gaby’s affair and his subsequent attempt to confront her and Paul. The episode then delves into the dynamics between the three characters and their respective personal struggles.

The episode also highlights the distinction between Jimmy, Gaby, and Paul and how they are all dealing with their personal struggles in their own ways. Jimmy is still grappling with the loss of his wife and is trying to find a way to channel his grief. Gaby is dealing with the end of her marriage and trying to navigate her newfound freedom. Paul is battling Parkinson’s and trying to maintain his independence while also facing the reality of his declining health.

Notably, despite its heavy subject matter, the episode still manages to balance it with moments of humour, making it a well-rounded and enjoyable watch. The episode also features a heartwarming and hilarious conversation between Alice and Sean that adds a touch of frivolity to the otherwise mature episode. All in all, the series appears to be more mature, fine, and intriguing.
