Secret Invasion Episode 1 Reactions: Major Character Death and an Explosive Ending Leave Fans Dumbfounded

Starting MCU’s Phase 5 TV saga on a high (and devastating final low) note, the Secret Invasion Episode 1 reactions on Twitter mark Marvelites trying hard to contemplate and digest what all just hit them. The new series welcomes back Samuel L Jackson as the ultimate godfather of the old Avengers Initiative – Nick Fury. Trying his all to fit back in with the Earthly crowd after his long hiatus spent in outer space, Fury seems a bit rusty initially, but seeing him back in flesh in the first place is a cause for major festivities among the MCU fans.

Despite his joyous return (on a not so joyous note) and reunion with former S.H.I.E.L.D. agent and long-time friend, Maria Hill, played by Cobie Smulders, Fury has long been out of the game that even his fellow companions including Talos (Ben Mendelsohn), the Skrull friend he made back in Captain Marvel, can see that Thano’s Blip has changed him for the worse. The show also welcomes Emilia Clarke, Olivia Colman, Kingsley Ben-Adir and Don Cheadle as part of the main highlights. Created by Kyle Bradstreet, who’s the head writer of the miniseries with Ali Selim by his side as the director, the premiere leaves a lot unsaid about Fury’s past, but ends with an unprecedented explosion.

Viewers who tuned in to Disney+ Hotstar today, i.e. on June 21, 2023 for the first episode, titled “Resurrection”, in a series of a total 6 entries, felt a familiar warmth on seeing familiar old faces of the MCU, but were also left “speechless” with how the grittier and maturer plot line switched the face of the franchise with just one episode in the tank. Sadly nostalgic callbacks to previous sad endings for certain characters could be found on Twitter, as fans of the superhero lineup drew parallels between the ending of the premiere and former releases.

Tweets like “Not mad at this first episode” rose high due to the conscious choice made by Marvel to cater to its mature audience, as opposed to the fluff hilarity that’s previously been incorporated into many Marvel projects, giving to endless instance of theme being met with backlash from he audience.

Also, since the premiere was more suspenseful than expected, its storyline almost seemed cryptic to the ones watching. Memes along with tweets like “me acting like i understood any of that” were also found a plenty on the platform. Another significant takeaway praised by the fans was the unconventional style of the opening credits for the show that had been developed with the help of AI, and producing a fitting vision for the show’s premise, thus, adding a touch of extra mystery and haunting ambiguity.

Probably one of the most heartbreaking deliveries of the episode have to be the major character death captured at the end. Fans are planning on “suing” (lighthearted jab) Marvel for the heartbreak they’ve just encountered, as they can’t seem to accept that an old, much-loved character was brought back only to have been met with this end.

Other than the prevailing turmoil and confusion, it looks like the fans are already liking the show and have accepted it as one of the best openings to an MCU TV series, especially with Jackson and Mendelsohn’s dynamic giving a chaotic mid-life crisis coming head.
